#PlatVnyl6 The Nominations Begin: Video of The Year

We have come to the greatest of all the posts, as least in the video category. VIDEO OF THE YEAR. These are the best videos for the eligibility year, at least as far as the judges here are concerned. In some cases Movie Short may be used instead of Music Video. The nominees are: Darkest Part by RED ; Dreams by +kingskaleidoscope ; Ever Be by Kalley Heiligenthal and +Bethel Music ; For Those Who Can't Speak by +tenthavenuenorthVEVO ; and Volcano ft Jonathan Thulin by +Rapture Ruckus . Three of the 5 nominated videos are over 5 Minutes in length. One breaks 8 minutes.

MVM Special Edition: #PlatVnyl5 VMA-Video of The Year

The end of the #PlatVnyl5 Video awards is upon us. Only one award before the coveted Video Of The Year is handed out. Video by a Female Artist is first. The nominees were: Forever by Kari Jobe; Heartbeat by Beckah Shae; No Better U by V.Rose; Running With The Boys by Lights; and When The Crazy Kicks In by Francesca Battistelli. And the winner was: Running With The Boys
Finally we come to Video Of The Year.  We had 7 entries in this category, where we usually try to keep things to five for the videos. The nominees were: Felix Culpa by Kings Kaleidoscope; Forever by Kari Jobe; Heartbeat by Beckah Shae; Heartbeat by Sumerlin; Ready, Aim by Mali Music; Relief  by Wolves At The Gate; and When The Crazy Kicks In by Francesca Battistelli. And the #PlatVnyl5 Video of The Year is and was: Forever.

Music Video Monday: #PlatVnyl4 - Hard Rock/Metal Video of The Year

We are at the penultimate post for the Video Awards of #PlatVnyl4. That means the next to last for those in Rio Linda. The first of the last is Hard Rock/Metal Video of The Year. As we are like to remind you, you can click on the genre to view the results for Adult Contemporary, Alternative, Pop, Dance, Electronic, and Hip Hop.

MVM Special Edition: Video of The Year

The final video category is upon us. Video of The Year. The five nominees in this category were deemed to be the best of all the videos in the pool, regardless of genre. These are the creme de la creme. (A little French culture for y'all). And the nominees are.

MVM Special Edition: Adult Contemporary Video Nominees

It's that time again, ladies and gentlemen. The time when we begin our announcement of the NOMINEES for the 4th Platinum Vinyl Awards. This is no joke, despite the day. If we were a big time operation we would have CCM and Fringe and GRAC stars read the nominees on network television in the morning, and everything would be glam and glory. Instead, you have me. We will make the announcements in various ways through this blog, and on the Night Beat Social Media Network which includes, at present Google+, Facebook, and Twitter. You really should follow me on all three.

The easiest nominations for the blog is always the Video Awards, now in its second year. To get a nominee a Video has to be good as a video, not just to have something filmed to music. We begin with the nominees for Adult Contemporary/Inspirational Video of The Year. The votes determining the nominees have been cast and have been certified by the law firm of Youppi, Snoopy and Cow, pc. And the nominees are:

#PlatVnyl3 - Video of The Year

A category having its debut this year, Video of The Year honors the Music Video, once responsible for launching two cable networks (VH1 and MTV), now it is the red headed stepchild of the industry.

Judging in this category skews heavily to the visual element. The song could be simply average, yet when combined with the video it becomes unforgettable. Of course, both parts could be equally strong. A weak video and a strong song would not be considered, however.

Due to the visual element, the nominees for the video categories were reduced from the usual seven to five.

• Carry You, Close Your Eyes
• Poison and Wine (The Civil Wars Cover), Satellites and Sirens
• The Proof Of Your Love, For King and Country
• Timing is Everything, Lights

Each of the nominated videos is a striking visual image in itself. From the Flashdance inspired Timing is Everything where Lights proves the truism that "something red always draws the eye" to the dystopian nightmare that is "The Proof of Your Love". In retrospect, perhaps Valerie (Lights) should have drenched herself with water (a la Jennifer Beals), because the judges went with the St. James Gang instead of her (For King and Country is Joel and Luke Smallbone, brothers to Rebecca St. James). Also on to the next round was a tale of Life, Love and Death that would impress even Evanescence. Carry You by Close Your Eyes.

When the smoke cleared, however, Walt Disney carried the day. Well, Pixar at least. Satellites and Sirens made an album of cover songs and then created a music video for each of them. They were all good, some silly, and a few notable. Among the latter category was a cover of The Civil Wars Poison and Wine. They used a montage of images from Pixar's UP, and it is a real tear-jerker.
