Night Beat Rewind: May 2015

We seem to be back on Schedule. April is up and linked and now May has been finished with a few days to go. If the release schedule has its Summer Slowdown I may even have the breathing room needed to make a proper #PlatVnyl5 awards ceremony. We did have some individual songs released during May

The Singles Scene

  • Salt of The Sound - Dwell Among Us 4.75 Emeralds
Although like the 45 there are two sides to these singles they only usually pick one to announce. So, this month it really is a single single scene. We move on to the albums that did not get included in the pool.

Missing The Mark

  • Audio Adrenaline - Sound of The Saints 3.75 Emeralds
  • Faith Child - Airborne 3.75 Emeralds
  • Jerry Fee - We Are The Voices 3.75 Emeralds
  • Gemstones - Blind Elephant 3.75 Emeralds
  • Hillsong United - Empires 3.75 Emeralds
  • Unspoken - Unplugged 3.75 Emeralds
  • Various - Tyscot Loud Platinum Mixtape 3.50 Emeralds
What can I say? I know I don't like Audio Adrenaline 3.0. They have made great strides in becoming a band that people will swear they've heard before, and that is the problem. They used to have a fairly unique sound. And with the exception of EDM outreach Hillsong Young and Free everything out of Sydney these days sounds pretty much mailed in. As opposed to our next grouping.

Pure Platinum Perfection

  • Anberlin - Never Take Friendship Personal Live In New York City 5 Emeralds
  • Foreverlin - Still After 5 Emeralds
  • Plumb - Exhale 5 Emeralds
Really not much to say here. Anberin (should I say the late Anberlin?) and Plumb are consistently excellent. Foreverlin is a new discovery, yet I like them. Now for those in between the extremes.

Semi-Precious Metals

  • 21 Pilots - Blurryface 4.75 Emeralds
  • Abandon Kansas - Alligator 4.75 Emeralds
  • Blanca - Blanca 4.75 Emeralds
  • Cornell Burton, Jr - The Singles EP 4.50 Emeralds
  • Elim Sound - Elim 100 4.50 Emeralds
  • Emery - You Were Never Alone 4.75 Emeralds
  • CJ Emulous - Light It Up 4.50 Emeralds
  • Chad Evans - Before and After 4.75 Emeralds
  • Fedel - Flaw 4.50 Emeralds
  • Mia Feldes - Ashes 4.50 Emeralds
  • Fireflight - INNOVA 4.75 Emeralds
  • Jon Foreman - The Wonderland: Sunlight EP 4.75 Emeralds
  • J Han - Tower Ivory 4.75 Emeralds
  • Haste The Day - Coward 4.50 Emeralds
  • Lonnie Hunter and Structure - #GETITDONE 4.50 Emeralds
  • Illuminate - Charismata 4.25 Emeralds
  • Kingdom - Acoustic Sessions 4.75 Emeralds
  • Morgan Harper Nichols - Morgan Harper Nichols 4.50 Emeralds
  • Jimmy Needham - Vice and Virtue 4.50 Emeralds
  • Northwest Collective - Rejoice: Live From Seattle 4.50 Emeralds
  • Pioneer - Passive Agression, Volume 1 4.50 Emeralds
  • Planetshakers - Outback Worship Sessions 4.75 Emeralds
  • Freddy Rodrigues - Amazed 4.75 Emeralds
  • SPEC - Vacancy 4.50 Emeralds
  • Gracie Schram - I Am Me 4.50 Emeralds
  • Jonathan Singh - City Love Music 4.75 Emeralds
  • Wolves at The Gate - Reprise EP 4.75 Emeralds
I am going to do the same thing this month. I will get this posted now and link it up Monday. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Night Beat Rewind: April 2015

I'm beginning to think that I might actually do this. The rush to get #PlatVnyl5 under way, plus an abundance of current releases has combined to create a bit of a backlog. Fortunately things don't stay that way for long. The 2nd Quarter releases are in the bag, and we have already put out the March Edition of rewind. Now we are about to do the April edition of rewind and it is still May.

Web begin with a few songs released during the month of April, or as we like to call it:

The Singles Scene

We move on to the Albums. Of Course we begin with those which did not make the #PlatVnyl6 Pool.

Missing The Mark

  • Alex Faith & Dre Murray - Southern Lights: Overexposed 3.75 Emeralds
  • Amy Grant - Be Still and Know: Hymns And Faith 3.75 Emeralds
  • Steve Green - 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection 3.75 Emeralds
  • New Hope Christian College - New Hope Christian College 3.75 Emeralds
  • Various - Little Boy Soundtrack
Officially, all of these releases are very good, just missing the #PlatVnyl6 pool by a hair. Unofficially, however, very rarely has a nominee gotten in with a 4.50 Emerald score. Usually the minimum bar is 4.75 Emeralds, sometimes it has been all Perfect.
Next is the Perfect ones. Or as we call it here:

Pure Platinum Perfection

With only three Perfect Albums this month, I hopefully see the Candy Store as having reduced hours at the very least.

Semi-Precious Metal

Caught up. On to the May edition. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Modern Worship

This is it. The final post for the 2nd Quarter of 2015. And what a post it is. Modern Worship had a whopping 19 eligible entries. I try to judge this category the hardest and somehow I have a whole lot to do at the end. Here is the Final List in all its glory

Modern Worship

  • Bethel Music - We Will Not Be Shaken (Live)
  • Bridgecity - Christ Be Glorified
  • Sarah Brusco - The Woven Whisper
  • Calling Glory - Life and Spirit
  • Trev Conkey - Mighty Ocean Strong
  • Danen Kane - Flesh and Soul
  • NCC Worship - You Alone
  • New Method - Greater
  • Newport - Paradise
  • North Point Music - North Point Music: Beginning
  • Passion - Even So Come (Live In Atlanta)
  • Robbie Seay Band - Psalms
  • Sixteen Cities - The Depth of Your Love
  • Jon-Micah Sumrall - Faith and Family
  • Third Day - Lead Us Back: Songs of Worship
  • Various - iWorship Now/Next 2015
  • Vertical Church Band - Church Songs
  • Watoto - Oh What Love
  • Worshipmob - Carry The Fire
And that finishes off the 2nd Quarter of 2015. On to the 3rd Quarter of Music. Until next time. I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Gospel

Two left to go. I have finally got things under control here at Night Beat HQ. The announcement of the 2nd Quarter of 2015 is almost over. Actually, this is the penultimate post. Gospel had a very good showing as well, but not as well as our final post. Still, eleven entries makes almost two years worth of final material. These genres will require some heavy judging. Let's get to it.

Gospel/R&B

  • Crystal Aikin - All I Need
  • Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir - Pray
  • Erica Campbell - Help 2.0
  • Benita Farmer - Mender of Me
  • Armar'rae Hill and True Foundation - We are Royalty
  • Jason Nelson - Jesus Revealed
  • Various - Billboard #1's Gospel Hits
  • Various - Risen: Powerful Gospel Resurrection Songs
  • Various - WoW Gospel 2015
  • Virtue - Testimony Reloaded
  • Brian Courtney Wilson - Worth Fighting For
Two perfect albums were in the mix, and they weren't on the Compilations. They were both among the ladies. Erica Campbell and Virtue were both Flawless. Modern Worship is the last and the greatest. They had a whopping nineteen entries this quarter alone. That would be just two shy of three years of finals. They are next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Rap

Welcome back to our announcement of the 2nd Quarter 2015 Pool entries. We move on to the final three. First up is Rap and Hip-Hop, with ten entries this quarter. Mind you, we try to narrow things down to 7 entries for the finals. Let's get to it.

Rap/Hip-Hop

  • 21:03 - Outsiders
  • Eshon Burgundy - The Fear of God
  • Chris Cobbins - August Season, Take 1
  • Dee-1 - 3Up EP
  • JSon - No Filter
  • Derek Minor - Empire
  • NF - Mansion
  • Sareem Poems and Ess Be - Beautiful Noise
  • Skrip - Renegades Never Die
  • Social Club - Us
This quarter we had Three perfect albums in Rap, and they were Eshon Burgundy, Derek Minor and Skrip. That's half the finals in already. Next up is Gospel.

Music Video Monday: Little Bird

I am trying to get some sense of normalcy here at Night Beat HQ, and the best way to do that is to have a regular scheduling of Music Video Monday. So here we go.

We begin our video tour with a little folk music. We will be singing about the Little Bird with Misty Edwards.

Next up we rock out to Red and Darkest Part.

And finally we move on to Rap music, and Eshon Burgundy. This is a bit of Higher Learning

That does it for this edition of Music Video Monday. Tomorrow we return to the Second Quarter Announcements. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Rock

We are going full speed ahead as we go through the announcements of the 2nd Quarter #PlatVnyl6 pool. We are moving on to Rock and Roll, the 3rd of our Single Genre Postings, as we go from least to greatest number of nominees.

Rock Music

  • Altar Boys - Gut Level Music (Re-release)
  • Jeremy Camp - I Will Follow
  • Hawk Nelson - Diamonds
  • Mat Kearney - Just Kids
  • Ravenhill - Soul
  • Red - Of Beauty and Rage
  • Sumerlin - Runaways Deluxe
This was a stacked genre, with The Altar Boys re-release and new releases from Red and Sumerlin (okay, a deluxe edition) gaining perfect 5's. We shall have a day off on Sunday, and as we are getting back to our normal Music Video Monday Schedule I shall return with the 2nd Quarter Announcements on Tuesday. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Folk Music

Welcome back to our announcement of the 2nd Quarter of 2015 Pool Eligible Entries. We are moving through the field in brisk order. We now come upon Folk Music, and its harder edged sibling, Folk Rock. Here we go

Folk/Folk Rock

  • The Brilliance - Brother
  • Copperlilly - Copperlilly
  • The Grey Havens - Fire and Stone
  • Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors - Medicine
  • I Am They - I Am They
  • The Vespers - Sisters and Brothers
Again, purely coincidentally based on Alphabetical order, The Vespers is the last one mentioned and it is also a Perfect Album. But once again it is well earned. Hard to believe but this is only the third album by The Vespers. They have been cranking out excellence like they've been around for decades. Rock Music is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Alternative

We are continuing our rollout of the 2nd Quarter 2015 Pool Eligible entries. We had no entries in three genres and covered 6 more in our first two posts, so 9 genres are in the bag. For the remaining single genre postings we go from least to greatest in nominees. Our first post, therefore, belongs to Alternative Music, which had 5 nominees, which is our minimum posting limit.

Alternative

  • Aaron Gillespie - Grace Through The Wandering
  • Pacific Gold - Sing My Welcome Home
  • Kevin Max - Broken Temples
  • Sixpence None The Richer - The Ultimate Collection
  • Jonathan Thulin - Science Fiction
Purely coincidental, but our last listing is actually a perfect 5. Of course Jonathan Thulin earns it. I can hardly wait for the Music Videos to come out. Until next time, when we shall go to Folk Music, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Adult Contemporary Dance

We continue our progression through the 2015 2nd Quarter eligible releases. This is the second of our multiple genre nominations. In our first post we announced Children's Music, Jazz, Pop and the Remix. For this post there are but two genres. They are Adult Contemporary and Dance-Synthpop. From here on in we go with single genre posts. We begin again.

Dance/Synthpop

  • Hillsong Young and Free - This Is Living
  • Inspire Music - Inspire
  • Various - WoW Hits Party Mix

Adult Contemporary/Inspirational

  • Among The Thirsty - Who You Say I Am
  • Jared Anderson - Where I Am Right Now
  • Davis The Band - Only Your Love
  • Matt Maher - Saints and Sinners
Yes there is a double dipper. WoW Hits party mix is a tossup between Dance and Remix. There is a bit of both. So they are listed in both. Next up is Alternative. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Jazzy Times

We are slightly behind schedule here at Night Beat HQ. March has finally had its rewind and we are slowly slogging through April. Did you notice that it is May? Another thing that we should have done by now is the announcement of the Second Quarter Pool entries for #PlatVnyl6. That begins now.

First things first. For the Second Quarter of 2105, which comprises January, February and March of 2015, there were no entries for Electronic/Industrial, Instrumental, or Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. We have two multiple genre posts to tackle before getting to the single genre posts. This one will comprise Children's Music, Jazz, Remixes and Pop. Let's get to it.

Children's Music

  • Yancy - Little Praise Party: Taste and See

Jazz

  • Kirk Whalum - The Gospel According to Jazz 4

Remix

  • Urban Rescue - Re-Imagined
  • Various - WoW Hits Party Mix

Pop

  • Dave Barnes - Hymns For Her
  • Brandon Heath - No Turning Back
  • Love and The Outcome - Ocean Way Sessions: Live EP
We are off and running. The only thing to note is that Both Yancy and Kirk Whalum are Perfect 5 Emerald releases. We shall be attempting to get in one each day. So far, so good. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: Oh Mama a Volcano

Welcome to the return of Music Video Monday. I have decided to bring this back as a sign that things are getting back to normal. Now that the nominations for #PlatVnyl5 are updated, we can get back to the flow of things, and Music Video Monday is part of that flow.

We begin with a new video by Former The Civil Wars Lead singer Joy Williams. It's a timely video called Woman (Oh Mama). One word of warning, though. We have a lot of shots of Joy "Tastefully nude" I shall say, so there may be a NSFW for the squeamish. I wasn't offended, but a little shocked. She is a beautiful woman.
Next up, we go to rap, and Rapture Ruckus. This has been a strange journey for this band and the Platinum Vinyl Awards. Invader Volume 1 was, eh. Ok. I passed on it. Invader Volume 2 I loved. And I loved Invader Deluxe. He got some help from Jonathan Thulin for the music video of Volcano. Love his epic videos
And finally we got to a just discovered just posted live video by The Vespers. What? It's Not enough? You'll have to wait for next week.
That does it for the return of Music Video Monday. See you next Monday. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
