Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Hard Rock

We are in the home stretch with only three genre's remaining. Since Alternative we have met the final bar of 7 entries, and by the end of the wrap we will almost triple that amount. Hard Rock has 10 entries this quarter. The Loud Stuff represents.

Hard Rock/Heavy Metal

  • Amongst The Giants - Obscene
  • Evanescence - Synthesis Live
  • Fight The Fury - Still Breathing EP
  • Innerwish - Inner Strength
  • Innerwish - Silent Faces
  • Leah - The Quest
  • Memphis May Fire - Broken
  • P.O.D. - Circles
  • Righteous Vendetta - Reignite: The Fire Inside
  • Silent Planet - When The End Began
The Innerwish albums are re-releases from 2004 and 2006. The Ladies are well represented with Celtic Metalist Leah and Amy Lee represented. And we even have a return from P.O.D., a legend of sorts. Pop is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Live Recorded Album

No more ties, no more ties. We finish with our last group of ties with Live Recorded Album. They also had 9 entrants this quarter, which is enough to represent the genre in the final. We still have three more quarters to go, however.

Live Recorded Album

  • 3C Live - Good To Me (Live)
  • Christ Fellowship Worship - What Love Looks Like (Live)
  • Covenant Worship - Covenant Worship (Live)
  • Evanescence - Synthesis Live
  • Sean Feucht - Wild
  • Hillsong Young and Free - III (Live at Hillsong Conference)
  • Tasha Cobbs Leonard - Heart. Passion. Pursuit: Live at Passion City Church
  • Needtobreathe - Acoustic (Live), Volume 1
  • Planetshakers - Heaven on Earth
Of this quite excellent list my personal favorite is Synthesis Live by Evanescence. The DVD recorded at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut is simply amazing. Amy is Gorgeous (as always) and is the true director of the orchestra. Everything revolves around her as it should. The best DVD of 2018. Hard Rock is next. Until then I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Adult Contemporary

We come to our last tie. Four ties in a month (one was folded into a megapost, so we are merciful). This time we tie at 9 and Adult Contemporary and Live Recorded Album both met the bar. Adult Contemporary (and Inspirational) is the first alphabetically.

Adult Contemporary/Inspirational

  • Anthem Lights - Worship
  • Casting Crowns - Only Jesus
  • Michael Farren - Fighting For Us
  • High Street Hymns - High Street Hymns
  • Selah - You Raise Me Up: Greatest Hits
  • Russ Taff - Believe
  • Unspoken - Just Give Me Jesus
  • Victoria - Victoria EP
  • Josh White & Josh Garrels - Josh White & Josh Garrels
I nice mix of new and old (and at least for one, some might say ancient). I was quite pleased to know that Russ Taff still has a bit of rock left in him. Live album is next. Until Then I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Alternative

We are in a spot between ties. Alternative had seven entries and no other genre did. It stands alone. Wonder how that happened.

Alternative Rock

  • Crowder - I know a ghost
  • Eowyn - Just Believe
  • Brooke Fraser - B Sides
  • MAE - Multisensory Aesthetic Experience
  • Twenty One Pilots - Trench
  • Steve Taylor - Squint
  • Veridia - The Beast You Feed
Eowyn is back with an awesome album, Steve Taylor releases a classic to the digital world and Veridia goes more alternative with a little help from Amy Lee of Evanescence. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Instrumental

Without Words. Instrumental music is the next up in our 1st Quarter wrap. Here no words are needed to make a giant impact.

Instrumental Music

  • Celldweller - Remixed Upon A Blackstar Instrumentals
  • Color Theory - The Majesty of Our Broken Past Instrumentals
  • Hammock - Universalis
  • Andy Hunter - Presence, Volume 3
  • Scandroid - The Darkness
  • Mark and Sarah Tillman - Morning Sun, Rising Tide Instrumentals
The industrial genius of Celldweller, the 80's synth of Scandroid and Color Theory, and the contemplative styles of Hammock and Andy Hunter. Just sit back and enjoy the mood. Alternative is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Electronic

From one tie to another. There are actually three sets of ties this quarter. We had a four way tie with 5 entries and now have a two way tie with 6. We also have a two way tie with 9. That's a lot of horrendous neckware.

Electronic and Industrial make the first of this pair.

Electronic-Industrial

  • Celldweller - Remixed Upon A Blackstar
  • Celldweller - Remixed Upon A Blackstar Instrumentals
  • Crusoe - A Cure For Gravity
  • Hammock - Universalis
  • Salt of The Sound - Beyond Here
  • Soulbreather - Come Along
We have really filled out the category with Folk/Ambient (Soulbreather), Industrial (Celldweller), Trance/Ambient (Salt of The Sound, Hammock) and Other Electronic (Crusoe).  Instrumental is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Remix

I know there are those who would dispute that Remix Album is not a genre, but the purpose of the Remix is to make something new out of something else. Since a good remix barely resembles the original it could be considered a new genre.

Remix Album

  • Celldweller - Remixed Upon A Blackstar
  • Celldweller - Remixed Upon A Blackstar Instrumentals
  • Plumb - Crazy About You (Remixes)
  • Scandroid - The Darkness
  • JSteph - Glory: The Remixes
One big comment, about Scandroid. You may see The Darkness in multiple categories. It is one album, but it includes a section of original songs, remixes of those songs, and instrumental versions of the same songs. We go from one tie to two. Our next section is a two way tie. Electronic - Industrial is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Rap

The third of the four way tie is Rap and Hip Hop. Let's get to it.

Rap/Hip Hop

  • Canon - Home
  • Aaron Cole - The Other Side EP
  • Psalm - Deathproof
  • Gerry Skrillz - Hundred Proof EP
  • DA T.R.U.T.H. - Vet
This quarter we have mostly established veterans, though Aaron Cole could be considered somewhat of a newcomer. Our final in this first tie is Remix. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Gospel

Gospel Music is next as part of our four way tie for "last" among our single genre posts. Let's not waste any time debating Gospel/SoGo.

Gospel/R&B

  • Lisa Page Brooks - My Life
  • Christon Gray - Clear The Heir
  • Tasha Cobbs Leonard - Heart.Passion.Pursuit
  • Tamela Mann - Us Against The World
  • Joshua's Troop - Another Chance
We are halfway through this first tie. Our third entry is Rap and Hip Hop. Until Next Time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Dance

We begin with a Dance. No, don't worry, not me. The Dance genre is one of four genres to make the initial bar of 5 entries. It also represents our cutesy title.

Dance-Synthpop

  • GAWVI - Panorama
  • Influencers - On Earth/In Heaven
  • Kevin Max - Romeo Drive
  • Matthew Parker - Daydreamer
  • Scandroid - The Darkness
The Darkness is Scandroid's Third Album (other than remixes and compilations), the first two are Scandroid and Monochrome. It's hit song is Phoenix. Moving on alphabetically, we go with Gospel (The real kind). Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Phoenix Rising: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Children's folk rock compilation

PVX is underway. The first quarter is underway and it is time to wrap. There is only one megapost this quarter as it was a very good quarter. Four genre's: Children's Music, Folk Music, Rock Music, and Compilation, had less than five entries, which make our minimum bar for their own post. Let's Get to it.

Compilation Album

  • Various Artists - WoW Hits 2019

Children's Music

  • JJ Heller - I Dream of You, Volume II

Folk Music/Folk Rock

  • Christafari - 99.4.1
  • High Street Hymns - High Street Hymns
  • Jenny and Tyler - There Will Be A Song (Deluxe)

Rock Music

  • The Afters - The Beginning and Everything After
  • Emery - Eve
  • Marc Martel - Thunderbolt and Lightning
  • Needtobreathe - Acoustic (Live), Volume 1
The first quarter 2019 wrap is under way, and we are all single genre from now on. A four way tie awaits us at the 5 bar. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Embrace The Darkness

I was born in the 60's, had my childhood in the 70's, and came of age in the 1980's. It was a much simpler time back then, especially musically, and sometimes I miss it. Well, except for bell bottom jeans, perms and the disco era. Some things are best left forgotten.

The 80's was the golden age of Music, and really the birth of Christian Contemporary Music, though you can push it into the 70's. Woodstock happened in 1969. Larry Norman's Upon This Rock published in 1969, is generally thought to be the first CCM Album and kicked off the Jesus Music Era, which some have ending in 1989, but I would say really ended as the 80's began and Christian Music began to become a force in the Music Industry at large.

The hardware was simple. There was the 45 or single. It had 2 songs. Side A was the radio hit. And then there was the B-side. They didn't need to be from the same artist. A 33 or album was usually 8 to 10 songs, with 5 to a side. All could be hits, or none. Around the middle of the decade a hybrid appeared called an extended play disc or EP. it usually consisted of 5 songs.

Throw simplicity out the window. It's time to embrace The Darkness, the latest genius release by Scott Allen (aka Klayton). Multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire with numerous side projects, this one Scandroid (he is also Celldweller, Circle of Dust, Argyle Park, Klank, and Chatterbox. Tired yet). Scandroid is his 80's Synthwave persona, and it is probably my favorite, though It's hard to pick among the excellence. This is Scandroid's Third "Album", and the label is up for debate. There are 18 tracks, which would technically make a "Double Album". Yet there are only 6 original songs, which would make an EP. The 18 tracks are arranged in the following order: The 6 Original Tracks (Into The Darkness, Phoenix, The End of Time, Onyx, Red Planet, and Out of The Darkness), then there are 4 remixes of the vocal tracks, and then there are 8 more instrumental tracks (Into the Darkness is also a very short instrumental), 4 of which are remix instrumentals. So its 2 EP's and an album combined.

I was sold on The Darkness (there was no title at the time) when I heard Phoenix, and so did everyone else. Soundcloud had that song with almost 11,000 plays:

Another life begins, sanctified
Freed from a thousand sins, that have died
fear no uncertainty, anxiety or unbelievers
Spread Wings of Fire, Born Again.

Can I get an Amen, somebody.

Scandroid is really meant to be experienced, and you can't do justice with talk, so I have included the soundcloud playlist for The Darkness. All 18 Tracks. We Are Phoenix. A Perfect 5 Emeralds. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
