Justified In Light: The 2020 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - The Megapost

2020 is here, and it is time for our first wrap of the year. As always we begin with a megapost or megaposts that squeeze all the genres that contributed less than 5 entrants in a quarter. Children's Music and Remix Album had no representation this quarter. This post will cram in Compilation Album, Folk/Folk Rock, Alternative, Dance-Synthpop, and Electronic-Industrial. There are also three ties when we get to the single genre postings. You know how we love ties here at Night Beat HQ. Let's get to it.

Compilation Album

  • Various Artists - Simple Hymns: Songs of Worship

Folk/Folk Rock

  • The Porter's Gate - Neighbor Songs

Alternative Rock

  • Northlander - Forces of Light

Dance-Synthpop

  • Color Theory - Lucky Ago
  • Scandroid - The Light

Electronic-Industrial

  • Dear Gravity - The Pilgrimage Series: Arrival EP
  • Hammock - Silencia
  • Andy Hunter - Presence, Volume 4
  • White Collar Sideshow - I Didn't Come Here To Die
That starts things off with a bang. Single Genre from here on, and we begin with our first tie. Adult Contemporary leads things off. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Wolves Unleashed: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 4th Qtr - The Megapost Edition

Welcome to the final quarter wrap for #PVX (aka Platinum Vinyl 10). Ten Years of Excellence is in the books. Sounds like I could make a book of it.

We begin our quarterly wrap with a or several megaposts. These are multiple genre posts for those genres which fail to make the minimum bar of 5 entries in this case. Electronic-Industrial Had no entries this quarter and Instrumental, Children's Music, Folk Music, Dance-Synthpop, and Remix all failed to meet the minimum bar. Altogether they account for 9 entries. Let's get to it.

Instrumental Music

  • Dear Gravity - The Pilgrimage Series: Wayfaring

Children's Music

  • Caleb and Kelsey - Sing Over Me: Songs for Parents and their Little Ones
  • Rend Collective Kids - Sparkle Pop Rampage

Dance-Synthpop

  • Attaboy - Wild
  • Transform - Jericho

Folk/Folk Rock

  • Foldinglights - Subterranean Hum
  • Reflect Love Back (ft Lacey Sturm) - Soundtrack, Volume 1

Remix

  • Meredith Andrews - Faith and Wonder Alternate Versions
  • TobyMac - The St Nemele Collab Sessions
That does it for the Megaposts for this quarter. We begin our single genre posts with a three way tie. Compilation is up first. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

The Reckoning: The 2019 Platinum Vinyl Awards 2nd Qtr - Folk

Folk Music (and Folk Rock) is first up among our single genre posts. Folk has turned into somewhat of a catch all genres, including bluegrass, reggae and even a bit of light country.

Folk/Folk Rock

  • Steven Curtis Chapman - Deeper Roots: Where The Bluegrass Grows
  • Heath McNease - Be Clean Again
  • Cindy Morgan - Autumn and Eve: Old Testaments, Volume 1
  • Ripp + Rice - Songs We Wrote on Tuesday
  • Wild Harbors - Monument
Kind of a diverse grouping. Like I said, it's somewhat of a smorgasboard of a genre, and this proves it. What would a wrap be without a tie. We have one next. Adult Contemporary is first, next. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Backmasking Number Nine: The 2018 Platinum Vinyl Awards 4th Qtr - Alternative Folk Metal Remix

The final quarter of #PlatVnyl9 is completed, and by some miracle I have managed to quickly compile the wrap. Hopefully that is a sign that we are climbing into normalcy. The first of two megaposts are here. The four genres in this post are responsible for nine entries total. Let's get to it.

Alternative Rock

  • Eisley - I'm Only Dreaming of Days Long Past
  • Narrow Skies - Seasons: Acoustic Sessions

Folk Music/Folk Rock

  • Matthew Thiessen and The Earthquakes - Wind Up Bird
  • Vocal Few - Grand Pre EP

Hard Rock/Heavy Metal

  • Earth Groans - Rahab
  • Fit For A King - Dark Skies

Remix

  • Celldweller - Wish Upon A Blackstar Remix Contest Compilation
  • Lexi - Just Listen: The Remixes
  • Narrow Skies - Seasons: Remixed
The first of our megaposts is in the bag. The 4th Quarter reveal is underway. Our final megapost is later today. Missed the deadline yesterday, so two today. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Don't Stop Believing: The 2018 Platinum Vinyl Awards 3rd Qtr - Alternative, Folk, Instrumental

We have come upon the end of the 3rd Quarter of 2018, at least here at Night Beat HQ. Our Platinum Vinyl Eligibility Year goes from October 1- September 30. In honor of our Summer Time Travel we have given the quarter the title "Don't Stop Believing" in honor of the 1981 Song by Journey of The Same name. Just listening to the song on the internet I thought "This Will Preach", which is funny considering one of the authors, Jonathan Cain, is a Christian and married to Paula White, evangelist.

We start with the genres that didn't get enough eligible entries to merit their own post. We will make two of these mega-posts this quarter, seven genres being combined. First up is Alternative Rock, Folk/Folk Rock, and Instrumental Music.

Folk/Folk Rock

  • Christafari - Original Love
  • Christa Wells - Velveteen
Folk tends to be a dumping ground for "ethnic" sounds. I really don't know where to put Reggae, Jazz and other unique sounds. There are never enough of them to justify a separate category. Christa Wells is more of the standard "girl with guitar" folk artist.

Alternative Rock

  • The Choir - Bloodshot
  • Kevin Max - AWOL
  • Kevin Max - AWOL Deluxe Demo Sampler EP
Not much to say here. Two veterans (actually, one pioneer). Both deserve to win, one may.

Instrumental Music

  • Amman/Josh -- Pieces
  • Salt of The Sound - Meditations, Volume 3
  • Scandroid - Dreams In Monochrome
  • Somniscape - Calm, Volume 1
A little explanation here. Amman/Josh is a new group signed by Hammock, consisting of Amman Abbasi and Josh Varnedore. They are a sort of trance instrumental. Somniscape is a instrumental side project of Eric Ooyoung aka Future of Forestry, to showcase his instrumental side. The vocals side will stay Future of Forestry. Next up is our final megapost with Adult Contemporary, Children's Music, Heavy Metal and The Remix. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

The Musical Industrial Complex: The 2018 Platinum Vinyl Awards 2nd Qtr (Jan-Mar 2018) - Live Remix Folk

The Second Quarter of 2018 is in the bag (and because of a number of reasons the 3rd Quarter is almost done as well). We are finally ready to get the Second Quarter Wrap underway. We begin with our multiple genre posts. First up is Live Recorded Album, Remix Album, and Folk Music.

Live Recorded Album

  • Pax 217 - Live 6/3/17

Remix Album

  • Jordan Feliz - Witness (The Remixes)
  • Hillsong Young and Free - Love Wont Let Me Down (The Remixes)

Folk/Folk Rock

  • Eufaula - Between The Hills
  • The Oh Hellos - Eurus EP
  • Andrew Peterson - Resurrection Letters, Prologue
  • Andrew Peterson - Resurrection Letters, Volume 1
Sorry no links right now. Still looking for new affiliate possibilities as Amazon is going downhill. Next up Electronic Gospel. Until then I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Falling Rocks: The 2018 Platinum Vinyl Awards 1st Qtr - Children's Folk Instrumental Compilation

We continue with our reveal of the 2018 1rst Quarter. This is our last multiple genre post. From this point onward it is all single genre posting. This post will combine Children's Music, Folk/Folk Rock, Instrumental Album, and Compilation Album.

Compilation Album

  • Various Artists - The Star: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Children's Music

  • Josh Lovelace and Friends Present - Young Folk
  • Sojourn Music - Clap Your Hands, Stomp Your Feet
  • Tommy and Me - What Every Child Should Know About God, Volume 1 - Joyful
  • Tommy and Me - What Every Child Should Know About God, Volume 2 - Peaceful

Folk/Folk Rock

  • The Gray Havens - Ghost of A King Live
  • Sam and Samantha Mc Cabe - Through The Night
  • The Welcome Wagon - Light Up The Stairs

 Instrumental Album

  • Andy Hunter - Presence, Volume 2
We are done with the multi-genre posts. We go now from least to greatest in single genre posts. First up is Gospel (The Real Kind, not the Southern Version). Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Venus and Mars Are Alright: The 2017 Platinum Vinyl Awards 3rd Qtr: Instrumental Folk Compilation

Welcome to the 3rd Quarter wrap. This covers the music releases for the months of April, May, June of 2017. And we begin with those genres which failed to meet a minimum threshold which we have determined to be 5 entrants. We combine those genres into a series of multi-genre posts. There will be three this quarter. Two genres were not present at all this quarter, those were Children's Music and Remix. Our first multi-genre post will consist of Instrumental Music, Folk/Folk Rock, and Compilation. Let's get to it,

Instrumental Music

Folk/Folk Rock

Compilation Album

We are underway. Our second multi genre post is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

MVM Special Edition: #PlatVnyl7 Folk Video Nominees

We are trying to pull ourselves up out of a hole here at Night Beat HQ. One of the best ways to do that is to get going on the Platinum Vinyl Awards. This year (we are behind schedule) is #PlatVnyl7. We always use the Music Video Monday format to announce the Video Awards Nominees. Since we have narrowed a few of the categories to the final 5 nominees, I think it is high time to begin the announcement process.

We begin with Folk/Folk Rock Video of The Year. The nominees for #PlatVnly7 are Signal by Sara Groves; Beloved One by Jenny and Tyler; The Dream Alive by Vocal Few; What Do You See? by Mr and Mrs Something; and Band of Gold by The Grey Havens. Here is the video playlist.
That does it for this edition of Music Video Monday. We will try to keep this up daily. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply

A Perfect Scale: The 2016 Platinum Vinyl Awards 4th Quarter: Instrumental Gospel Folk Children

Do-re-me-fa-so-la-ti-do. That's the scale in question, just sayin. (What were you thinking I meant?). The musical reference is to announce that, for I believe the very first time ever (at least since the current genre expansion) had a quarter with at least one entry in every genre. Actually, that's part of the reason for the delay. I found out that NewReleaseToday and other sites aren't exactly reliable sources when it comes to Children's Music. So I had to do my own digging on Amazon. I found a bunch, including four for this quarter. The genre will be updated as the days go on, beginning with this one.

As is our custom, we roll out the quarters in ascending order starting with multiple genre postings for the orphan genres (those that don't make 5 entries. We have two of these this quarter). As is also our custom, these will be linked to Amazon for easy purchase to support The Night Beat. Do it. On to the nominees.

Folk/Folk Rock

Instrumental Music

Gospel/R&B

Children's Music

We are off and running. One more multi-genre posting to go and then we are on to the single genre posts. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

The Seven Soundtrack: The 2016 Platinum Vinyl Awards 3rd Quarter - Folk Remix Compilation

Welcome to the first of the multi-genre posts of the 3rd Quarter Wrap. Our minimum bar for a solo post is 5 nominees, and all of these did not make the bar. Only Children's Music is a no-show, however. Let us begin.

Compilation Album

Folk/Folk Rock

Remix Album

Of course this is the real minimum bar. Unless you qualify (or even make an album), you can't show up in our wrap. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

#PlatVnyl6 The Nominations Begin: Folk/Folk Rock Video of The Year

We are about to get underway. I am going to go about things a little differently for #PlatVnyl6 and we shall see how things pan out.

The Nominees for Folk/Folk Rock Video of The Year for #PlatVnyl6 are: Little Bird by Misty Edwards; Neosho by +Jennifer Knapp ; Not Enough by +The Vespers ; Psychosocial by +brooke fraser and Yahweh by The Brilliance.

Here is the playlist.

Next Up is Adult Contemporary/Inspirational Video of The Year. Like I said, we are underway. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Mistletunes: The 2016 1st Quarter - Folk/Folk Rock

We continue with our announcement of the #PlatVnyl7 or 2016 1st Quarter Pool Entrants. Our second single genre post is Folk and Folk Rock, called by some Singer/Songwriter, which is tremendously confusing, since it can be any genre. At least the ubiquitous "girl with guitar" was somewhat more descriptive.

Folk/Folk Rock

There are the standard artists here, with Sara Groves, who put out a perfect album, and Andrew Peterson, among the leaders. The Dream Alive and Mr. and Mrs. Something are among the new crop. Or at least new to me. Gospel is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

#PlatVnyl6 v. #WLCMA4 - The Album Awards, Part One

The matchup begins. As we mentioned in our last post, the +We Love Christian Music Awards recently announced their nominee pool, and we here at the +The WENC Night Beat were pleasantly surprised to find we are pretty much on the same page. We go now to the actual nomination comparisons. We start with the Album Awards. One slight Caveat. We have not yet finalized our nominees yet, so I can only speak with possibilities except in the case of Perfect 5's, which are considered Automatic Qualifiers for the finals.

The Hook Awards correspond to our Pop Album of The Year. Our biggest problem with this bunch of picks is we seem to have a difference of opinion on our definition of "Pop". Their nominees.

  • Blanca - Blanca 4.75 Emeralds
  • Jonathan Thulin - Science Fiction 5 EMERALDS
  • Kevin Max - Broken Temples: Deluxe 5 EMERALDS
  • Mat Kearney - Just Kids 4.75 Emeralds
  • Ryan Stevenson - Fresh Start 4.75 Emeralds
We agree with Blanca and Stevenson, and at 4.75 we shall see if they make the finals in Pop. Jonathan Thulin and Kevin Max, however are automatic qualifiers for Alternative, not pop, and Kearney is in the mix in Rock. I wish to suggest the following Pop Albums for Consideration.

  • Annie Moses Band - American Rhapsody 5 EMERALDS
  • JJ Heller - Sound of A Living Heart 5 EMERALDS
  • Plumb - Exhale 5 EMERALDS
  • Kerrie Roberts - My Hearts Lifted 5 EMERALDS

The Softlight Award correspond to our Adult Contemporary/Inspirational Album of The Year. Again we seem to differ in our genre interpretation. Their nominees

  • Chris August - The Maker 4.50 Emeralds
  • Jeremy Camp - I Will Follow 4.75 Emeralds
  • Lauren Daigle - How Can It Be 4.75 Emeralds
  • Plumb - Exhale 5 EMERALDS
  • Sidewalk Prophets - Something Different 5 EMERALDS
Of the five Daigle and August are in the right genre in our opinion, though August most likely wont get in the finals at only a 4.5. Plumb isn't her usual dance, but AC? Please. It's Pop. And Jeremy Camp and Sidewalk Prophets are both Rock. Only Two AQ's for AC from us for your perusal.

  • Big Daddy Weave - Beautiful Offering 5 EMERALDS
  • The City Harmonic - We Are 5 EMERALDS
The Prose Award, which they say is for Singer/Songwriter Album of The Year, would seem to correspond to our Folk/Folk Rock Album of The Year. You can check my latest rant to see what I think of the Singer/Songwriter label. Anyway, their nominees.

  • Andrew Peterson - The Burning Edge of Dawn 4.75 Emeralds
  • Cindy Morgan - Bows and Arrows 4.75 Emeralds
  • Jon Guerra - Little Songs 4.50 Emeralds
  • Josh Wilson - That Was Then, This Is Now 4.75 Emeralds
  • Sara Groves - Floodplain 5 EMERALDS
We have a number of problems to sort out here. One is misplaced genre, as Wilson and Morgan are Pop. Guerra is AC/Insp. Except for Guerra's 4.50 I Think they would make a fine finals. Our biggest problem is the meshing of eligibility years. Ours run from Oct 1- Sept 30, so Andrew Peterson and Sara Groves, while excellent choices, are in the running for #PlatVnyl7, not the current #PlatVnyl6 year. Again, not much for Folk AQ's but here are ours.

  • Jennifer Knapp - Set Me Free 5 EMERALDS
  • The Vespers - Sisters and Brothers 5 EMERALDS
I can hear the peanut gallery screaming "Jennifer's Not Christian Anymore". I never heard her renounce Jesus. These two are in big time.

As to picking, here goes. I think Blanca should get the Hook Award, Daigle the Softlight and Sara Groves the Prose Award. We'll hit another bunch next time. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Shemita Songs: The 2015 Platinum Vinyl Awards 4th Qtr - Folk Compilation

We continue with the announcements of the 4th Quarter Pool Entries for #PlatVnyl6. This is the second of three multiple genre posts. Our first post comprised Children's Music, Electronic-Industrial, Remix, and Instrumental. This time we shall only have two, Compilation and Folk Music. Let's get to it.

Compilation of The Year

Needless to say these are all multiple artist or various artists, so we only give the title.

Folk Music/Folk Rock

That does it for this edition. We still have one more multiple genre post before we go to the single genre. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Spring Tunes Up: The 2015 3rd Quarter - Industrial Folk

The 3rd Quarter of 2015 is in the bag. The Temperatures are heating up and so is the competition for the honor that is #PlatVnyl6. There were no eligible entries (that I know of, others could be discovered) for Children's Music, Dance/Synthpop, and Remix this quarter. We also combine genres that had too few entrants to merit a seperate post. This quarter we are combining Folk/Folk Rock, Instrumental, Electronic/Industrial, and Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. The combined genres amount to 10 potential nominees. So from least to greatest here we go.

Instrumental Music

  • Kings Kaleidoscope - Becoming Who We Are (Instrumental)

Electronic/Industrial

  • NYVES - Anxiety
  • Rapture Ruckus - Invader Deluxe

Folk/Folk Rock

  • Sandra McCracken - Psalms
  • Shane and Shane - The Worship Initiative
  • Joy Williams - Venus

Hard Rock/Heavy Metal

  • August Burns Red - Found In Far Away Places
  • Haste The Day - Coward
  • The Ongoing Concept - Handmade
  • Wolves at the Gate - Reprise EP
While all these made the initial pool, their fate is uncertain. Especially ones like Joy Williams and The Ongoing Concept. They are on the bubble with a 4.50 rating. We are on our way. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply

Polar Vortex Polka Redux: The 2015 2nd Quarter - Folk Music

Welcome back to our announcement of the 2nd Quarter of 2015 Pool Eligible Entries. We are moving through the field in brisk order. We now come upon Folk Music, and its harder edged sibling, Folk Rock. Here we go

Folk/Folk Rock

  • The Brilliance - Brother
  • Copperlilly - Copperlilly
  • The Grey Havens - Fire and Stone
  • Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors - Medicine
  • I Am They - I Am They
  • The Vespers - Sisters and Brothers
Again, purely coincidentally based on Alphabetical order, The Vespers is the last one mentioned and it is also a Perfect Album. But once again it is well earned. Hard to believe but this is only the third album by The Vespers. They have been cranking out excellence like they've been around for decades. Rock Music is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

The Best of 2014: Widows and orphans

I'm calling this the widows and orphans post. Not in the writing style, but close. These are the entries that have only a single representative from their genre. This year those entries were from Jazz, Folk, Dance, Adult Contemporary, Pop, and Electronic. If they were all in one genre they would have tied with alternative for 6 entries.

They say when life hands you lemons, you make Lemonade . +Charlie Peacock  makes a really cool glass of the stuff, as in cool jazz. This is, based on the samples I have listened to, a purely instrumental album. We may have enough for Jazz, but I am not sure we have enough instrumental albums to warrant that category this year. If we do it will definitely be among them.

Jazz was usually mixed in with Folk Music, as is reggae and a lot of "ethnic" music. Some pure folk came out this year via one of the Fallen, as in Jennifer Knapp. However, as much as I would have wanted it to be so, her album, Set me free [+digital booklet] ,  while perfect, wasn't one of the best of 2014. A folk/worship album which tilted more toward folk was, however. +For the Fatherless  For the Fatherless . With songs such as unfailing father, not of the night, and what this love is for, it is really difficult to not get drawn in. We were.

If you are looking for a Dancing Queen, you really need look no further than +Beckah Shae . She is surely the hands down Champion . While others may dabble in Dance from time to time, she has consistently made the dance floor her home. Even when she does scripture snacks it's hard not to bust a move.

For the Electronic representative, you have to go across the pond, or the sound, as in +Salt Of The Sound . Actually the pond works as well, as these two Stockholm transplants are actually Brits by nature. They actually put out two album releases Journeys and Meditations, Vol. 1 . The Second, which is also instrumental, is the one which is a best of.

The Adult Contemporary representative on the list was +lindsaymccaul with One More Step [+digital booklet] . Actually it is the title cut that brought me to tears. Sheer emotional manipulation is what it is. And it works. Who says guys don't have feelings.

Though McCaul strays into pop here and there, the pop rep has been dancing queen from time to time lately. She's a real Plumb. The Deluxe Edition of Need You Now (Deluxe Edition) is one of the Best Albums of The Year. The only problem with this artist? I don't think I can hold my breath until March 31. That's when Exhale comes out.

That finishes the widows and orphans post, as well as our recap of the Best of 2014. We now return to our drive to five, as well as our regularly scheduled business. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

The Drive To Five: The Pursuit of Platinum

Here at the Headquarters of the Platinum Vinyl Awards we are racing toward our 6th Awards. But just like they say about not looking past an opponent, we must not forget about the fifth awards this Spring. Still, as we prepare for the Fifth, I feel it is an appropriate time to look back at our humble beginnings.

The inaugural awards had 10 genre based awards and another 10 general field awards. It was a five hour blogathon. Growth was natural. Even before the ceremony we had to split Rock Album of The Year into Rock and Metal.

The original concept was for the Platinum Vinyl Awards to be a best of the year award with a Calendar Year eligibility period. The idea was soon scrapped and a October 1 - September 30 eligibility year instituted. We also set the perfect number of nominees per category at 7. Considering that only two genres (Folk/Folk Rock and Children's Music) fell short of the number it was a good choice. Those two genres were still awarded, however.

It goes without saying that the inaugural award would be full of "firsts", yet not all of them were welcome. Two of the album awards resulted in ties, a result as distasteful to this blogger as the neck ware, yet sometimes just as necessary. The first tie occurred in the folk music genre. You would think that a clear winner could be picked among only five nominees, but such was not the case. In a field consisting of Andrew Peterson, Sandra McCracken, Caedmon's Call, Jennifer Knapp and Carolina Story, it deadlocked at two finalists. Since each artist represented one half of the genre, so to speak, the solution was to split the baby. Carolina Story took home Traditional Folk Album of The Year for When The River Met The Sea and Jennifer Knapp took home Folk Rock Album of The Year for Letting Go.

A more traditional tie occurred with Alternative Album of The Year. No Solomon like wisdom needed here, we simply gave our two awards. Genre Creators The Choir, Burning Like The Midnight Sun after over twenty years, for sounding truly alternative, and Ivoryline with the more corporate sound, for Vessels.

We will continue our look back at the inaugural award with our next post. Until then I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Bad Moon Rising: The 2014 Platinum Vinyl Awards 4th Qtr - Jazzy Folk Children

The 2014 Platinum Vinyl Awards pool is finally closed, and what a way to end it. We had a slew of entries this time around. Yes that is a highly technical term.

As always we begin the quarterly wrap by combining the lesser represented genres into a single post. Some of them were Jazz (a new genre), Children's Music, and Folk Music. So without further ado:

Jazz Music

  • Hamilton Hardin - Just Wanna Say

Children's Music

  • Vineyard UK - Great Big God 5

Folk/Folk Rock

  • Lexi Elisha - Rope
  • For The Fatherless - For The Fatherless
  • Heath McNease  - Fort Wayne (Songs Inspired by the movie)
  • Tim Neufeld - The Joy (f/The Glory Boys)
We have kicked things off. This was a big quarter with a lot of releases, and we build up to the big genre. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
