And the Winner is.... Modern Worship. Really, did you expect anything else? While I try to keep my snark to a minimum level it does get a little old. Could we have rock win the genre one of these days? Let's get to the big winner.
Modern Worship
And that concludes the third quarter. The Fourth Quarter is already underway, and no surprise, some big hitters have chosen to release now. Keep it locked to The Night Beat, and as I always conclude every post, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
We are down to our final two single genre posts. That was quicker than I thought. The penultimate post is for Pop Music. It had eleven entries this quarter. If you have been keeping track of things as we go along you know which genre won the quarter. It usually does. On to the entries.
Pop Music
A nice mix this quarter, including a surprise entry by Dance Queen Lights. When a Dance album goes acoustic, it winds up pop. Modern Worship is all that is left. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
We are on the third of our three way tie. Rock also had nine entries into the pool this quarter. (I think there was a rock tune called Number Nine. Sorry- Obscure Beatles Reference). Anyway from here on in every genre has more than nine, which means a lot of whittling come judging time. To the entries
Rock Music
This is a simply amazing quarter for Rock. Decyfer Down has put out another excellent Southern Rock release. Dogs of Peace proves the wait is worth it with its PFResque sophomore release. BTW, the debut, Speak (we're going through the obedience school manual), was in 1996. TFK knocked it out of the park with Exhale, not to be confused with an album by the same name by Plumb. Suffice it to say that of these 9 entries, 5 are Perfect 5 Emerald Releases. And the Finals have 7 spots. Usually. There could be a lot of snubs for #PlatVnyl7. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
The second of our three way tie is here. Rap and Hip Hop had 9 eligible entries this quarter. That would be enough, if there were no judging, to fill a final category with two left over. There will be judging, however.
Rap/Hip Hop
A solid group of entrants which should make for a very tough category once judging begins. Rock, the final of our trio of nine, is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
Gospel Music is next in our single genre postings. It had nine entrants this quarter, and shared that number with both Hip Hop and Rock. From this point on all of our genres had enough entries in one quarter to fill a finals. It makes judging worthwhile. On to the entrants.
Gospel/R&B
Not much to say this time around, except that sometimes things are worth the wait. Myron Butler was setting vaporware records with On Purpose. I think the album is about six months late. All is forgiven once you listen to it. Hip Hop is next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
Our third quarter rollout of #PlatVnyl7 eligible entries now moves into its Single Genre Posting phase, and builds in intensity from the least to the greatest, at least as far as number of entrants is concerned. This time the fewest entrants went to Alternative Rock, which met the minimum bar of five. Let's get to it.
Alternative Rock
A comment is in order. Kings Kaleidoscope has created a bit of a kerfuffle about them this time around, and it's not about the music. Personally I find it was a bit of a distraction from an otherwise good album, though not on the level of Live In Color or Becoming Who We Are. The controversy comes from a line in the song called "A Prayer", where lead singer Chad Gardner uses the phrase "F***ing Violence" in the "explicit version" of the album. Now when I was a youngster the F-bomb was a Euphemism for Sex, so the words would mean sex violence. Now, well the word is merely bad English, and can mean just about anything (as in "I went down to the f*** store and got myself some f***** donuts when this F**** car pulled in." I hear some variation of this every day). In the clean version it is Vicious Violence. Strong, frequent, whatever. Oh for the lack of a thesaurus. The word use is completely unnecessary. We are linking the clean version.
Next up is the first of a three way tie. We will begin with Gospel. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
The Final of our multi-genre posts is here. After this point there will be six more posts in the wrap, all of them single genres with 5 or more entrants, in ascending order. Of course all the pool entrants are linked with Amazon Purchase Links where they exist. Be a dear and buy through the links, you will support The Night Beat at the same time. On to the releases.
Adult Contemporary/Inspirational
Electronic-Industrial
Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
We begin our single genre posting next time with Alternative. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
This is the second of three multi-genre posts as we wrap the 3rd Quarter of 2016 in #PlatVnyl7. Things are going to get very interesting by the time this eligibility year is in the tank, you can be sure of that.
Instrumental Music
Live Recorded Album
Dance-Synthpop
Next up is our final multi-genre post. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
Welcome to the first of the multi-genre posts of the 3rd Quarter Wrap. Our minimum bar for a solo post is 5 nominees, and all of these did not make the bar. Only Children's Music is a no-show, however. Let us begin.
Compilation Album
Folk/Folk Rock
Remix Album
Of course this is the real minimum bar. Unless you qualify (or even make an album), you can't show up in our wrap. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
