Music Video Monday: Unstoppable

Welcome Back to an all new edition of Music Video Monday. Last Week Was Convention Week, so there was no way we were getting in a post last week. We are back, however. And we have a first this week. This is the first edition of Music Video Monday to be branded with a Content Advisory. (Not for that, however. Get your mind out of the gutter).

Let's get this out of the way. Not a parental advisory, but let's call this a disturbing content advisory. Mike Mains and The Branches has decided to produce a music video that pushes the boundaries of good Christian Decency. I mean, adults in spandex doing exercise. My eyes, My Eyes. Live Forever, after seeing this? You have been warned. You can't unsee this.
Now that that's behind us, we can get back to normality. You know, when I saw that first video I thought "Run, Forrest,  Run". You know who else thought that? Scott Stapp. The former Creed frontman just released a new solo album entitled The Space Between The Shadows. This is the Purpose For Pain.

We quiet it down just a bit for our final video. JJ Heller has always been a favorite of The Night Beat. This is the video for The Best Thing. It includes footage from the movie Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable. See, there is always a purpose for the titles.

That does it for this edition of Music Video Monday. Let's start a new streak. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Night Beat Rewind: November 2016

There is quite a lot to be thankful for this November, as we had a full slate of releases. Of course, most of them are Christmas Music, which are not eligible for the Platinum Vinyl Awards. Considering the amount of these releases it is also something to be thankful for. We begin with the aforementioned Christmas Music.

Christmas Music (Non-Eligible)

That is a whole bunch of Christmas Releases. Now onto the regular stuff. Even in November there is a bit of non-holiday releases. We begin with the songs, or

The Singles Scene

  • King Stevian - Ripcord 3.50 Emeralds
  • The Waiting Kind - Heartbeat 4.75 Emeralds
Moving On Without Comment. To the albums. We begin with those that will not be considered for #PlatVnyl8.

Missing The Mark

  • Changing Pointe Church - You Remain 3.75 Emeralds
  • Lisa Mitts - Where I Belong 3.50 Emeralds
  • Tommy Saint - Tommy Saint 3.75 Emeralds
  • Skrip - Exposition 3.75 Emeralds
Most of these releases are good, but just not award worthy. Lisa Mitts however the verdict is still out on. Maybe her vocals will grow on me (or improve). But right now think nails and chalkboard. Not so with the next grouping.

Pure Platinum Perfection

  • Future of Forestry - Awakened to The Sound 5 Emeralds
  • Wolves at The Gate - Types and Shadows 5 Emeralds
Yes I know, what about the others. In order to not repeat myself I am leaving this section to the non Christmas Releases. There are also 3 Perfect 5's in the Christmas Section. Our final grouping is for those in between, or as we like to call them here

Semi-Precious Metals

  • Canon - Loose Canon, Volume 3 4.50 Emeralds
  • Chapel Band - The Gathering 4.75 Emeralds
  • Death Requisite - Revisitation 4.75 Emeralds
  • Tim Drisdelle -Heights, Part 1 4.75 Emeralds
  • Summer Floyd - Ray of Light 4.50 Emeralds
  • Meleana - White Walls 4.50 Emeralds
  • VaShawn Mitchell - Secret Place: Live In South Africa 4.75 Emeralds
  • The Museum - Reclaimed EP 4.50 Emeralds
  • Ginny Owens - Love Be The Loudest 4.75 Emeralds
  • Chris Quillala - Split The Sky 4.75 Emeralds
  • S.O. - These Things Take Time EP 4.75 Emeralds
  • Toby Mac - Hits Deep Live 4.75 Emeralds
  • Micah Tyler - Different EP 4.75 Emeralds

Music Video Monday: This Present Darkness

Welcome back to another edition of Music Video Monday, where we show the best Music Videos suitable for a Christian Audience. I changed up my intro because this week I have a video which may be the greatest, but isn't exactly the latest. It was out a while ago, but I just discovered the artist and the video.

We begin with a bit of Metal. Poured Out is the name of the band, and this is Humankind Suicide.
Next up we are going to start slowly breaking into the Holiday Spirit (not Spirits, that's something only done at the Office Party after Youppi spikes the punch). A folk/pop favorite here at Night Beat HQ is JJ Heller. From her latest Christmas Release Unto Us, this is the lyric video for the title cut.
And finally, the promised video. The artist is named Leah McHenry, but she just prefers LEAH. From an album that could have cleaned up at #PlatVnyl6 entitled Kings and Queens. This is the lyric video for This Present Darkness.
Now when I saw this video, all these scripture verses came rushing into my memory. The song is a veritable Bible Study on Spiritual Warfare.

That does it for this edition of Music Video Monday. Beginning next week we will put things on Pause, and begin another edition of the Night Beat Christmas Parade, which will extend into January. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: I Get To Be The One

Welcome back to our regularly scheduled edition of Music Video Monday. We begin with a cuteness overload. The Song isn't new, but the video is. JJ Heller has been one of my favorites for a while, both in the Folk and now the Pop genres. A few years back she put out a Children's Album and my favorite on the album was a song called I Get To Be The One. Well the video is now out and it has been done Home Movie Style. A Lot of Cute Baby Video is in this. Be Warned.

One of the upcoming Inspirational/Modern Worship bands out there is called I Am They. Kind of reminds me of a sermon I heard once ("Who cares what they think. Unless HE is in the middle of They, it doesn't matter what they think". Yeah.). This is a cover of Bethel Music No Longer Slaves.
And finally, before we go we had best turn out the Lights. The Canadian songstress took her Pop/Dance oriented Little Machines album for an acoustic spin, which she dubbed Midnight Machines. She has an awesome voice which made this album Pure Platinum. This is Meteorites.
That does it for this edition of Music Video Monday. We are currently announcing the Platinum Vinyl Award nominees on our Facebook page. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

#PlatVnyl6 The Nominations Begin: Video by a Female Artist

We are quickly wrapping up the nominee announcements for our Video of The Year segment of #PlatVnyl6. We are moving on to Video by a Female Artist. It's just a bookkeeping thing you know, just like FFR. The nominees are: Dance Up by +Abigail Duhon ; Exhale by Plumb ; Neosho by +Jennifer Knapp ; The Well by +JJHellermusic ; and We Will Rise by Natasha Owens.

Our Playlist of the nominated videos:

Video by a New Artist is Next. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Night Beat Rewind: August 2015

Eleven down, one to go. Once September is done we can put the cover on the #PlatVnyl6 pool and open the #PlatVnyl7 pool for entries. 7 Years. God Is Good. There was one song released in August, and that was the Title Track for Stryper's upcoming album Fallen. It wasn't as good as Yahweh, but you would be very rarely have two perfect songs, even on a perfect album. I give it 4.75 Emeralds.

We begin our album coverage with those releases which, while pretty good (I haven't found a real stinker in years), just aren't platinum.

Missing The Mark

  • Between The Trees & Ryan Kirkland - Wanderer 3.75 Emeralds
  • Rend Collective Experiment - As Family We Go 3.75 Emeralds
  • Jim Sonefeld - Love EP 3.50 Emeralds
  • United Pursuit Band - Simple Gospel 3.50 Emeralds
  • Various Artists - Top 25 Hymns: The Old Rugged Cross 3.75 Emeralds
  • Various Artists - War Room: Music From The Original Motion Picture 3.75 Emeralds
  • Aaron Watkins - Chasing After You 3.75 Emeralds
I was very disappointed by Rend Collective, they sounded so ordinary. While I don't know much about United Pursuit, I do know that Michael Ketterer teamed up with Har Megiddo, so I had my expectations. The next group not only met my expectations, they smashed through them.

Pure Platinum Perfection

  • JJ Heller - Sound of a Living Heart 5 Emeralds
  • Toby Mac - This Is Not A Test 5 Emeralds
  • P.O.D. - The Awakening 5 Emeralds
  • Pillar - One Love Revolution 5 Emeralds
  • Sidewalk Prophets - Something Different 5 Emeralds
All I can say to this quintet is WOW. JJ Heller burst out of her folk mold to be a certified Pop Star. Pillar reformed its original lineup and returned to the rap-core sound that I loved on Fireproof. P.O.D. likewise reached heights like a Satellite, and even Toby Mac has put out his best album in a while. I know, I didn't dote on the Sidewalk Prophets, but they were awesome as well. Now on to the ones in the middle

Semi-Precious Metal

  • Brinson - Until We Meet Again 4.75 Emeralds
  • Tasha Cobbs - One Place (Live) 4.50 Emeralds
  • Disciple - The Best of 2005-2013 4.75 Emeralds
  • Abigail Duhon - More Than Gold 4.50 Emeralds
  • For A Season - I Will Wait 4.75 Emeralds
  • Ghost Ship - Costly 4.50 Emeralds
  • Geoffrey Golden - Kingdom Live 4.75 Emeralds
  • Travis Greene - Intentional EP 4.50 Emeralds
  • Gungor - One Wild Life: Soul 4.75 Emeralds
  • Cheri Keaggy - No Longer My Own 4.75 Emeralds
  • Bridgett Kern - No One Greater 4.75 Emeralds
  • Nichole Nordeman - The Unmaking EP 4.75 Emeralds
  • Natasha Owens - No One But You 4.75 Emeralds
  • Jeremy Rosado - Heartbeat 4.50 Emeralds
  • 7eventh Time Down - #GODISONTHEMOVE 4.75 Emeralds
  • Aaron Shust - Doxology 4.75 Emeralds
  • Thi'sl - Heavy Is The Head 4.25 Emeralds
  • Tony Tillman - Camden 4.50 Emeralds
  • Tony Tillman - Camden (Instrmentals) 4.50 Emeralds
  • John Waller - Crazy Faith 4.50 Emeralds
  • WARR Acres - Future 4.75 Emeralds
I am going to forgo links once again to get this out. I think I shall go back and do the old ones. If I don't they shall never get done. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: The Perfect Gift

Welcome back to our regularly scheduled, if a bit late, edition of Music video Monday. I promised we'd be back. This is kind of a rush job as I am trying to beat the Veteran's Day Rush.

We begin our Video tour with Everfound and Take this City (feat Joel of For King and Country).

Next up we have a video by the freshest sound in Gospel Music. The Walls Group. This quartet is only looking for some Love on The Radio.
Love on the Radio is a pretty good gift. But it may not be The Perfect Gift. That comes from JJ Heller.

That does it for this edition of Music Video Monday. Looks like the Video pool is slowing down. We shall see if we are forced to go into Holiday Mode soon. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: Be A Radical

Welcome back to our regularly scheduled edition of Music Video Monday, where we bring you the newest and the best Music Videos in CCM and the Fringe.

We begin our musical tour with one of my favorite bands with a name that may inspire some bait and switch action. With a name like +Disciple Rocks (actually Disciple, they added the Rocks) you may think they were Southern Gospel, but that's only half right, they are Southern Rock and on the Attack. This is Radical.
Up next is +Remedy Drive. More about the Pop/AC arena for this band. This is the title cut from their new album Commodity.

And finally, we have a lyric video from +JJHellermusic. This is I know you will.

That does it for this edition of Music Video Monday. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

MVM Special Edition: #PlatVnyl4 - Pop Video of The Year

Our third category in the #PlatVnyl4 Video Awards is that of Pop Video of The Year. The five nominated videos came from a wide swath of the Pop Genre. In fact, some might make a case that a few of the videos might not qualify as pop. You can catch our first two categories, which were Adult Contemporary and Alternative Video by clicking on the highlighted links.

The nominees, which you can watch at the nomination post, are: Beautiful Love by +ShineBrightBaby ; Love Walked In by +The Sonflowerz ; Loved by +JJHellermusic ; Still Into You by +Paramore ; and Wanted by +Dara Maclean .

Like Alternative, this category actually went into a second round of voting. The judging panel decided to go with the spirit of Pop Music, which is all about having fun. So the second round was between Shine Bright Baby and Paramore, and when it came down to the final vote it was all about which band had the most fun.

And the winner of Pop Video of The Year for #PlatVnyl4 is Still Into You by Paramore.

Three categories have been awarded, and there are 5 more to go. (There are actually a few more then that, but they will be pushed into the regular award show). Up next is the award for the first of the Electronic Categories, that of Dance/Synthpop Video of The Year. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Rising Beats: The 2014 Third Quarter - Folk Music

We begin with the single genre posts as we wrap up the Third Quarter of 2014. For those of you who have followed this blog for a while, you know that it is our practice to build up the posts to the one which got the most entries. We begin with the one that just cleared the bar. Folk Music and Folk Rock got 5 entries this quarter, giving it its own blog post.

Folk Music/Folk Rock

Now ASAD and Heller are multiple genre nominees, so that sort of skews things a bit, but when you release music that's hard to peg, those things happen. Alternative is next. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Rising Beats: The 2014 Third Quarter - Contemporary Adult Children

Thought I'd mess with your minds with that title. The last two shared genres of the Third Quarter of 2014 are Children's Music and Adult Contemporary/Inspirational, and since I already used the inspired children shtick, I thought I would go with this one. So here goes.

Children's Music

Adult Contemporary/Inspirational

That is all for the multiple genre posts. Again, I would ask that you purchase the mp3s by clicking the link in this post and shopping through Amazon. We are an affiliate here at The Night Beat. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

#PlatVnyl4: The Nominees - Artist of The Year

Next up among our nomination announcements, of which the entire list is already up at the nomination page, is that of Artist of The Year. These are the artists or duos, not bands, which stood out above the rest. The seven nominees are:
  • +The Civil Wars Even though they have a band like name, the team of Joy Williams and John Paul White is merely a duo. With two nominated albums now under their belt, and a win for Barton Hollow, the hope is that this isn't a lifetime achievement nomination for a band that has passed on.
  • +Caroline Cobb Big gambles can lead to bigger rewards. The gamble: Writing a song for every book of the Bible. Though the project needed to be scaled down (a 66 song collection would be unfeasible) Caroline takes us on a 12 song through the Bible journey and uses pop, folk and a bit of country in an enjoyable mix.
  • +JJHellermusic If we can be accused of bias here at Night Beat HQ, JJ is one of the reasons. She is consistent in her excellence.
  • Json
  • +Charlie Peacock The Civil Wars producer took some time out to put out a Jazz work that just boggles the imagination. Going down to Mystic indeed.
  • Plumb
  • +Jonathan Thulin
There are two more to announce. Album and Song of The Year. I am Awaiting Your Reply.

MVM Special Edition: Video By A Female Artist

Next up is Video by A Female Artist. Once again we have five nominated videos, which distinguishes this category from the album and song awards, where we try to have seven nominees per category. The reason for this is the blog. Seven videos is a long scrolling experience. Five is pushing it, but under that seems like a waste. The nominees are:

Battery, V.Rose

Gold, +Britt NicoleGOLD

I Don't Deserve You, Paul Van Dyk feat Plumb

Loved, +JJHellermusic

Wanted, +daramaclean

Those are the nominees. Watch, enjoy, and vote in the comments. I encourage your votes to help me pick the winners.  Next up is Video by A New Artist. The young Turks get to shine. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: I Dream of You

Welcome back to our regular scheduled edition of Music Video Monday. We're still scrounging for new stuff. How long can it take to list a video on youtube?

We begin with a Lyric Video from +Jonny Diaz off his new release Let It Fly. This is Thank God I Got Her.
Next up we have +mercymevideo . They've got the entire Mainstream "Religious" World ready to pick up their stones. That's always a sign you're on the right track. They call it Hyper-Grace, we call it Bible. Get up an Shake.
And finally, we conclude our journey with a Night Beat favorite, +JJHellermusic . She just put out a Children's Album. Major Cuteness Alert. Clap along with JJ and I Dream Of You.
That concludes our Video journey. We will have something for Memorial Day, I just don't know what. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

MVM Special Edition: Pop Video Nominees

We continue with our announcement of the nominees for this years Video Awards, part of the 4th Annual Platinum Vinyl Awards. We have already announced the nominees for Adult Contemporary and Alternative Video of The Year. Today we move on to Pop Video of The Year. Watch the Videos, enjoy, and then cast your vote for the best one in the comments. All votes will help pick the winner. Once again, all votes are tallied and certified by the law firm of Youppi, Snoopy and Cow, PC. We only hire the best at Night Beat HQ. And the nominees for Pop Video of the Year are:

Beautiful Love, +ShineBrightBaby
Love Walked In, +The Sonflowerz
Loved, JJ Heller
Still Into You, +Paramore
Wanted, +Dara Maclean
What a list. This category is really showing promise. I really need the help because they are all good. Next up is Dance-Synthpop. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply (and comments).

Music Video Monday - Loved

Welcome Back to Music Video Monday. On this Dove Award Telecast Monday we're going to begin something new, for time constraints. This week, in addition to Music Video Monday, we will begin Music Video Friday. If I don't do this I will be doing past releases way into 2014 and still try to showcase the new stuff.

We begin this week with JJ Heller and a video which is sure to be Loved.
Next up is a new band, Bridgecity, and It's all because.
We go back to college, The University of Mobile to be precise. They want you to know that Our God is Faithful.
We conclude with another newbie, The Neverclaim. This is One Truth, One Life.
That's it for this exclusive Monday edition of Music Video Monday. On the debut edition of Music Video Friday, we will have videos by Audio Adrenaline, Jonathan Thulin, Hearts of Saints, and Plumb. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: The One That Got Away

Welcome back to an all new edition of Music Video Monday. We're trying something different this time around, as we share videos from the 4th Platinum Vinyl Awards Eligibility Year. Instead of doing random videos, we are progressing by genre. We may have to backtrack if something pops up, but I think we won't have to, it being September.

We begin with a legend in the making. The Civil Wars are already multiple award winners, and it looks like they're going to mine Platinum once again, at least in the Folk Genre. We shall see about the others. This is the only Music Video from their Self Titled possible swan song (They have Lyric Videos). They truly are The One That Got Away.
Next up is a double nominee. Yancy (not Nancy) already has a nominated album in Children's Music this year. She strayed into Folk and Modern Worship Territory with her album Roots for the Journey. I think it was more folk than Modern Worship, so I classified it there. This is Safe.
Finally, we conclude with one of the Folk Queens of Christian Music. JJ Heller is really a staple in the Platinum Vinyl Awards lineup. She could be this awards version of Amy Grant, though I believe she merits it. I kind of give all one girl and guitar people to folk, though she could be classified as pop. This is the video for Who You Are.
That concludes this edition of Music Video Monday. Next week we will settle down for a while in Adult Contemporary. Scroll down a little further and enter the giveaway. (One of the artists featured here has an album in the mix. It appeals to both North and South). Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply. a Rafflecopter giveaway

Night Beat Rewind: March 2013

March brings us to the midway point of eligibility for the 4th Annual Platinum Vinyl Awards. For those new readers of the WENC Night Beat, the Platinum Vinyl Awards, now in its fourth year, runs from October 1 - September  30.

Before we get to the entries a little housecleaning. Sparrow Records released a series of Greatest Hits albums this month, entitled "Icon", and the initial releases were of Steven Curtis Chapman, Amy Grant, Newsboys, and CeCe Winans. As Amazon is carrying them in CD only and no samples were available, they receive no rating and are not eligible. Also among the unrated and ineligible releases are new "Deluxe Editions" of KJ-52 Dangerous (made initial pool for current awards), and Francesca Battistelli's Hundred More Years (made the second PVA pool). For the same reasons as the Icon series, these are also unrated. There is one last ineligible release, and that is Family Force Five, The Third. Not only couldn't I find a audio sample, it is just a rearranged version of III, which didn't get into the pool. Now onto those that did get an Emerald Rating, though it wasn't high enough and it is said that these releases are:

Missing The Mark

Now once again, all of these releases are pretty good. It's just that pretty good isn't enough to make the cut among the Platinum Vinyl Awards. On the complete other end of the spectrum are those albums that completely wowed me. These albums are

Pure Platinum

Of course not all albums are perfect, and not all albums miss the mark. Most of them lie somewhere in between, in a place we call

Semi-Precious Metal

That completes this edition of Night Beat Rewind. No Fooling. It's nice to be up to date and on schedule right now. Click on the linked titles to buy from Amazon and support The Night Beat at the same time. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: Folk Rock Edition

Welcome to the Debut of Music Video Monday. It also happens to be Monday the 13th, which would be Garfield's most unlucky day. The Concept is pretty simple. Every Monday I will share a few music videos with you. I am going to start with some of the bands that have made it into the Platinum Vinyl Awards, and I am also going to try to find a few Classics as well.

We are going to start with the Folk/Folk Music Genre (which, due to some fudging, will also include stuff like reggae). First Up is Dominic Balli with American Dream the title cut from his new album

Moving to a more traditional folk rock, here is the great Burlap to Cashmere with Love Reclaims the Atmosphere from their self titled album.

I never thought a folk act would get 5 Stars, but then The Civil Wars came along. This is Poison and Wine from Barton Hollow

Brooke Fraser is next with Betty, which is from her nominated album Flags.

And We close out our Video show this week with Control by JJ Heller.

That concludes our first ever Music Video Monday. I'll see you Next Week (No Holiday for us at The Night Beat). Until Next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
