Christmas isn't really Christmas until you've heard Linus. Now I love Linus Van Pelt, and you can never go wrong with simply reading the Gospel of Luke, but there is more to the story. When politicians blather on about the Christmas story being about homelessness, you know there is a lot of ignorance out there. In the meantime, enjoy the clip
In the Spirit of Joe Friday, and with respect to Harry Morgan (Bill Gannon)--Just the facts. Mary and Joseph were not homeless. They had a home, it was in Nazareth, not Bethlehem. They had come to Bethlehem for the Census Bureau and a meeting with the IRS. "That all the world should be taxed". Because Joseph was a procrastinator he didn't consult with Travelocity beforehand, and as a result, when they got there, "there was no room at the inn." No Vacancy means No Vacancy, it doesn't mean that he didn't have money. He was there to pay taxes after all. A good hearted innkeeper most likely volunteered use of the stable. (As and aside, the Christmas Song "No Room" is wrong "There's no room...no room to lay your head, If you were wealthy we might find you a bed, but there's no room in here for you". The Bible is plain, No Room, not no room but if. And Apologetix is wrong to with their Eagles parody "Hotel Can't Afford Ya". The stable was all there was, and it was probably on the down low and off the books. I doubt a rental agreement was drawn up.
The best part, which should appeal to all us Tea partiers and fellow conservatives, The three wise men brought gold (money) and Frankincense and Myrrh, both valuable spices/perfumes that could be sold for more gold. Money answers all things. One aside on that. To all the Christmas Card makers out there, I am sorry to burst your bubble, but the wise men arrived approximately two years after Jesus was born, not at the same time. Actually the cards are wrong regardless, because most of them have the Shepherds there as well, and even the Catholics/Orthodox have a twelve day space between the two events. But back to the Wise Men. There were probably more than three, plus servants and other attendants. Whether Kings, Magicians or Astrologers, they had Klout (not the website) in their nation. There were only three types of gifts. There were probably tons of each. And best of all, since Joseph had already seen the IRS agent, this new infusion of Cash was Tax free. There was no being able to go back seven years for an audit back then. Oh for the good old days. Plenty of money for a Palace on the Nile. Hey you didn't think they just brought Jesus one gold coin. Most likely it was bags upon bags. Money fit for a king, from a king. For reference, check out 1 Kings 10:10 for a gift to Solomon. If not for his whole life, at least for his youth things were most likely very good. Jesus was most likely from an Upper-Middle Class Business owner family in the Construction business.
Some would say that both events had to happen at the same time. That once the Shepherds announced the birth Herod would have been on the warpath. But remember, Shepherds announced his birth. From what I can gather from the Bible a lot of cultures simply looked down on Shepherds. I doubt Herod believed them. Now the Magi. He believed them. God Was a good Father, he made sure his Son was provided for in Royal Style. No scrimping here. To the OWS, a newsflash, Jesus, and his disciples, were in the 1%, or pretty close to it.
The rest of the Story.
Merry Christmas to all from The Night Beat.

A Day to Remember
I write this post in the early hours of April 13. The day past marked a memorable occasion. 150 Years ago Yesterday, April 12, 1861 Confederate Forces under the command of General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard opened fire upon the United States Garrison at Fort Sumter in South Carolina commanded by Major Robert Anderson. The Civil War had begun. The next four years would see unimaginable carnage and horror, and inhumane treatment of prisoners of war in prison camps on both sides (Elmira in the North especially, and everyone knows about Andersonville). It is hard to study the civil war and not see the hand of God on this battle. Although the Fort was to become a blazing inferno due to the constant barrage of confederate Hot-Shot (the result of heating the cannon ball in a furnace before loading), two days of bombardment produced no casualties on either side. When all was done and the fort was surrendered, the citizens of Charleston brought food and drink to the defeated Federals, and offered the services of the city, including the doctors, though none were needed. It was all about the fort, there was no personal malice against the Union Soldiers. That would come later. It was a Civil beginning to an uncivil war.
The battle may have been bloodless, but the surrender was deadly. General Beauregard permitted Major Anderson to offer a hundred cannon (gun) salute to his flag, a noble gesture. Halfway through, a improperly sponged barrel ignited a charge and exploded a cannon, killing several soldiers. An accident.
I mention this because, 150 years later, there are those who feel that if history is inconvenient, it should simply be rewritten. It has been said that those who will not learn from history are condemned to repeat it. How can one learn from what is not taught because the truth may offend. Slavery then was a horrible thing, now overpaid NFL athletes call themselves slaves if there 5 million dollar contract isn't raised to 6 Million. Words mean nothing in this light. It is interesting that the original rallying call in the south (not Slavery, but States Rights) is in the forefront again. No, Civil War will not happen again. The revolution of today is a peaceful one, and despite the Liberal Screed, the Tea Party would be admired by Lincoln. It is about returning power to the people where it belongs. The North won the War, but lost the hearts of the South during the ill advised "reconstruction". As the country enters a second reconstruction from its economic destruction, let us look to the past to find the key to our future. God Bless America.

Hail Ronaldus Magnus
Today is a special day. No, not that unimportant sporting event between two teams of 300+ pound men in a certain city in Texas which is an excuse to charge exorbitant rates for advertising. Today is the 100th Anniversary of February 6, 1911, also known as the 100th Birthday of Ronald Reagan.
My first vote in an election of any size was for Reagan on November 6, 1984, and I have cast a Republican ballot ever since, though sometimes I have felt I had to hold my nose at some of the candidates available to me. In the Northeast the great majority of Republicans were and still are RINO's which stands for Republican In Name Only. They usually believe in compromise, which means let the Democrats have their way. Curiously, compromise never goes the other way. When Nancy Pelosi became Speaker of the House she promises to "Support Bush when he was right and Oppose him when he was wrong". She never supported him. America does not want Kum-by-ya, they want two parties (at least) with Distinct Views so that a Choice can be made clearly. Lincoln and Reagan would love the Tea Party and Sarah Palin and Paul LePage. Both of them would despise Olympia Snow and Susan Collins, John McCain and other RINO's. The Republican Party was born of Abolitionist fervor that tore a nation apart in order that it would remain united for all time. I have no doubt that both Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan would be members of the Tea Party. Their Ideals gave it birth.
A Very Happy 100th, Gipper.

A Red Stain on the BOHICA Blues
It's the day after the Tea Party Massacre, in all states except it seems Massachusetts. In the U.S. House Massachusetts, in the words of Representative Jim McGovern, "sailed against the wind", which usually means you capsize. In politics it might mean you cheated. Or that the voters intelligence is highly overrated. After looking over the results, I am ready to give my verdict.
To Reps Olver, Neal, McGovern, Frank, Tierney, Markey, and Lynch. Congratulations on your victory. You got over 50% in a contested race. Enjoy your final term, 2012 awaits.
To Bill Gunn, Tom Wesley, Marty Lamb, Sean Bielat, Jon Golnick, Bill Hudak, Gerry Dembrowski, and Vernon Harrison. The 2012 Campaign begins today. Do Not Let these Democrats rest even one minute of their term. Oppose them at every turn. You are not a novice anymore.
To Michael Capuano, You are illegally occupying the district. All elections must be contested to be legal. You should resign. In a perfect state you would be forced to resign, your seat would be declared vacant and a special election would immediately be held. I call it the Democracy Project. I doubt you would be in favor of it.
To Jeff Perry, Contest, Contest, Contest. You fell victim to a five way race. Your democratic opponent only got 47% his opposition 53%. Runoffs were made for this. Ditto Charlie Baker.
To Governor Patrick, remember to give Tim Cahill and Jill Stein cushy posts in your administration. You owe everything to them.
Not all things are bleak. Cujo (Paul Kujawski) is gone after 16 years. Congratulations Representative Kevin Kuros. Congratulations Lew Evangelidis, for your victory as Sheriff. Congratulations to Jennie Caissie for your election to Governor's Council. If Conservatives know anything now, it is there is no substitute for an honest an impartial judiciary. Thank You for being there to keep activist judges from the bench.
To all Republicans who ran this election season, win or lose. Thank You. By having the courage to contest the Democrats was a Profile In Courage. To the victors, know this, your victory is the first crack in the Democratic Dam. The Tea Party Tsunami continues. The Dam Bursts in 2012.

Vivent La Revolution
sThe revolution will be televised, and oh yes, there will be blood. The Election is Today and the fringe media (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, NPR, MSNBC, CNN) will be forced to report that the bloodshed is all on the Democrat side of the aisle. The first Tea Party since the original revolution (That's American not French) has the potential to remake Washington and Massachusetts. I have already voted and am proud to report that I voted a straight R ticket. I am hoping most of my candidates win. I did my part.
Most Democrats still don't get it. You can not legislate against the will of the people and hope to keep your cushy position. My U.S. Rep for a few months longer, Richie Neal, has been airing a radio ad with a Union Thug saying "Richie Neal Responds" when jobs are at stake. He boasts that he can bring money home from Washington. Richie, you don't need to bring money home IF IT NEVER LEAVES. All spending originates in the House, and that appears to be going Republican in a big way. Repeal Obamacare, Slash Spending and bring our Nation back from the brink. It starts today.

History Repeating Itself
While taking a walk yesterday I saw a political sign that took me down Memory Lane. Not too far, just a few blocks, the equivalent of four years. During the 2006 Election Campaign there was a Senate Race between a RINO by the name of Lincoln Chafee and a Democrat by the name of Sheldon Whitehouse. Since George W. Bush was the President the Democrat candidate launched the usual Bush Derangement Syndrome induced slander about "the first honest Whitehouse in Washington." Since Chafee was a RINO from a family of RINO's his campaign was "I hate Bush even more than the Democrat." The voters of Rhode Island, when given the choice between a True Democrat and a Fake Democrat went with the True Democrat, and Sheldon Whitehouse was elected. All that changed was the name and the letter after it. Chafee rarely voted as a Republican and after he lost he quickly became a Democrat.
Fast forward four years. The Democrats took over on January 3, 2007 and drove our country, not into a ditch, but over a cliff. An unemployment rate of 4% is now actually somewhere around 17% and our debt and deficit has skyrocketed. The truth is that all spending originates in the House, or as the saying goes "Congress controls the purse strings." The truth hurts. Pelosi and Reed are not Republicans.
Now to that sign. It was for my State Representative to Congress. That's Beacon Hill not Washington. He's a Democrat (big surprise, it's Massachusetts), but his flyer said he voted against the Gas Tax, The Income Tax, The Hotel Tax, The Alcohol Tax and the Temporary seat holder in the U.S. Senate between Kennedy's death and Scott Brown being sworn in. It seems the tide has turned, now Liberal Democrats are saying, "Hey I'm more conservative than the Republican." Here's to the hope that on November 2, the voters, when given the choice between a Fake Republican and a True Republican, vote for the True Republican, and not a DIRC (Democrat in Republican Clothing)

Primary Night
Polls close here in the Bay State in a few moments and, if we can produce a result in November similar to the Brown victory at the start of the year, we may be able to bring our State and the Country back from the brink. I have read various partisan dems say how they are happy with the direction the country is going and prefer to "keep it in D for Drive." To reply in kind I may say that if you are going along the road and see the bridge is out, it's time to put it in R for reverse. My highly unscientific study, which consisted of going to vote this morning, was that there was no one there but I, and I voted Republican.
