We crank up the volume all the way past limits now. Heavy Metal and Hard Rock had a very nice showing with 10 entries this quarter. It's gonna be headbanger heaven this year.
Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
- Bloodgood - Trenches of Rock: The Metal Mission of Bloodgood
- The Devil Wears Prada - The Act
- Norma Jean - All Hail
- Nothing Left - Disconnected
- RED - The Evening Hate EP
- Saint - The Calf
- Michael Sweet - 10
- What We Do In Secret - Repose
- Wicked's End - Flood
- The World Will Burn - Nothing as Real as it seems.
This quarter has a bit of an 80's feel to it. Michael Sweet is lead for Stryper, Saint and Bloodgood were also 80's bands and The World Will Burn is a side project of Dale Thompson, lead vocalist for the 80's Metal Band (still active) Bride. Our third and final tie is Rap. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
The final Album Edition Rewind of 2019 begins now. Like I said in the Single Scene Post, we are a little light this month. Bands take the holiday's off except for Christmas Music. Things will heat up again soon. They always do.
Christmas Music (Non-Eligible)
- Admiration and Affection - Lessons and Carols 4.75 Emeralds
- Somniscape - Christmas EP
The last month of Christmas Releases is the lightest. I guess if you haven't found a favorite already, you are ahead of the game for next year. In keeping with the gift giving season, as we move on to the judged music, there was only one album which missed the mark. That too will change as the year goes on.
Missing The Mark
- King Stevian - Trap Tithe 2 2.75 Emeralds
This artist usually gets categorized as Rap/Urban, but I have yet to hear anything but talking and we don't do "spoken word" here. We do music. Plus, he spends all his time this time talking about legal documents, child support, and the like. Not the venue for this.
Pure Platinum Perfection
- Bloodgood - Trenches of Rock: The Metal Mission of Bloodgood 5 Emeralds
- The Lead - Burn This Record (30th Anniversary Re-Issue) 5 Emeralds
- Manafest - This is Not The End 5 Emeralds
- Scandroid - The Light 5 Emeralds
Four....Sorry. Four perfect albums is pretty good for December. A little surprising is the re-release by The Lead. The quality is a little thin (it was CCM in the 80's remember) and so I am giving it a perfect 5 based on the lyrical content mostly. Now to the stuff in the middle.
Semi-Precious Metals
- 5ive - White Van EP 4.50 Emeralds
- Coby James - Coby James EP 4.75 Emeralds
- Northlander - Forces of Light 4.75 Emeralds
- Nothing Left - Disconnected 4.50 Emeralds
- Reba Rambo - Lady (43d Anniversary Remastered Digital Debut) 4.75 Emeralds
- Saint - The Calf 4.75 Emeralds
- John Schlitt - Go 4.75 Emeralds
- Social Club Misfits - MOOD/DOOM 4.75 Emeralds
- Sovereign Grace Music - This Glorious Christ EP 4.75 Emeralds
- Stillman - Whisper EP 4.75 Emeralds
- Joey Vantes - The Season EP 4.50 Emeralds
- Kanye West - Jesus Is Born 4.75 Emeralds
- The World Will Burn - Nothing As Real As it seems 4.75 Emeralds
2019 is in the bag completely. Happy New Year everyone.
Labor Day is almost here, and that means that Summer is Unofficially Over. While the season won't change until later in September, Fall is just around the corner.
Next Friday will mark the return of Flashback Friday, and our first post will be on the Metal band Bride. The week after that will be death metal band Saint, and then I have chosen to switch things up a bit.
I have run out of ideas for the column, at least in its present Chronological Order. I have come up with a solution, and that is to organize things thematically rather than chronologically. I have come up with ideas in three themed categories:
- The Commonwealth of CCM - I have a number of entries from the British Commonwealth (UK, Australia and New Zealand) Right now there are seven of them.
- The Industrial Revolution - These are Industrial, Techno Synthpop Bands, Right now I have six of them on tap.
- A Real Alternative - Alternative Bands. Right now there are 9 potential bands that can make a list here.
This is where I want you to come in. My question to you. Would you like me to go through each category one by one or would you like me to alternate one category each week. Let me know in the comments. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply
