Night Beat Rewind: December 2016

A Whole Year is in the bag. Well, really it is only the first quarter of the #PlatVnyl8 eligibility year. It also marks the end of 2016. So there will be a lot to catch up with on the days ahead. We begin with the Christmas Music, but as it is after the Holiday I will not be linking them as the other months.

Christmas Music (Non-Eligible)

• New Hope Oahu - Hope of All Hopes 4.25 Emeralds
• Ginny Owens - The Greatest Gift 4.50 Emeralds
• 7eventh Time Down - Christmas Is The Time 4.75 Emeralds
• Beckah Shae - Let It Snow 4.50 Emeralds
• TobyMac - Bring on The Holidays (Single) 4.50 Emeralds

For the last month of 2016 there were also no single releases, if you don't count TobyMac. We move on to the albums which will not make the cut.

Missing The Mark

• Joyce IM Bartholomew - Songs For The Deep 3.25 Emeralds
• Free Daps - Wild Card EP 3.75 Emeralds
• Jerry Manna - Holy Weapon, Volume 2 3.25 Emeralds
• Midcentury Modern - The Goodness 3.50 Emeralds
• Rob Reed - Greatest of These 3.75 Emeralds
• Tristin Roberts - Reassembled 3.75 Emeralds

6 releases in December that missed the mark give me hope that my critical skills are still as sharp as ever. There were also no Perfect albums this time around, so we move on to

Semi-Precious Metal

• Circle of Dust - Machines of Our Disgrace 4.75 Emeralds
• In The Verse - Transformer 4.50 Emeralds
• Trip Lee - The Waiting Room 4.75 Emeralds
• The Rock Music - Awakened By Hope 4.75 Emeralds
• Chris Sligh - Mighty Roar/Healing Flood 4.75 Emeralds
• Those Who Fear - State of Mind 4.75 Emeralds
• Carissa Vann - Changing Still 4.50 Emeralds
• Zach Williams - Chainbreaker 4.75 Emeralds
• Zao - The Well Intentioned Virus 4.50 Emeralds

That does it for 2016. As a resident of the fringe, I am psyched with the return of Circle of Dust, despite some purists saying "But he's an apostate". Welcome back Klayton. Coming up quickly is our 1st Quarter Wrap, on which all these will be grouped by genre, and given the appropriate Amazon linking to help support The Night Beat. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

A Perfect Scale: The 2016 Platinum Vinyl Awards 4th Quarter - Pop

The second of our beastly trio is Pop Music, which to some is really no better than Dance Music. Maybe so, but it isn't exactly the same. Enough soapbox preaching, let's get to the list.

Pop Music

• Tanya Godsey - Love Lines The Last Horizon
• Group 1 Crew - Power
• Love and The Outcome - These Are The Days
• Royce Lovett - Love Wins
• Beckah Shae - Mighty
• Unspoken - Follow Through

This is a good quarter for Pop Music as well as both Beckah Shae and Love and The Outcome mined Perfect Platinum. This is shaping up to be one of the best Platinum Vinyl Awards ever, if not the best. I don't want to make such a pronouncement, however, since we are only seven years old, and things just keep getting better each year. The final of the beastly trio is up next, and it is Live Recorded Album. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Music Video Monday: Running With Giants

Welcome back to Music Video Monday. Here's to trying to get it off on the right day. The less time spent on introductory remarks the better. We begin with a Rawkfist. One of the best exports ever to come from Canada is a Krutch, a Thousand Foot Krutch that is. They are Running With Giants.
Next up we go back to Fearless BND. They put our a lot of videos lately. This is Brighter.
And finally we may have done this one already, but I want to get this out so I am not going to check. This is I'll Be Alright by Beckah Shae.
See You next time. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

The 2016 2nd Quarter - Instrumental Electronic Dance

We are finishing our multiple genre posts with Dance-Synthpop, Electronic-Industrial, and Instrumental. No more than four entries made it in any category. Let us get to it.

Dance - Synthpop

• Hillsong Young and Free - Youth Revival
• Matt Price - Dream

Instrumental

• Beckah Shae - Rest (Without Words)
• Adam Young - Apollo 11
• Adam Young - RMS Titanic.

Electronic-Industrial

• Colorfair - Hurricane Rain
• Twilight Meadow - The Worlds We Discovered
• Paper Lights - Great Escape
• Urban Rescue - Wild Hearts EP

Just a few comments here. The Adam Young (Owl City released under his real name) releases are "Soundtracks", though the Motion Pictures are old. He just did a new soundtrack based on how he felt watching the movie. We begin the single genre posts next time with Rock Music, which met the minimum bar of 5 entries. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Night Beat Rewind: March 2016

We are doing well here at Night Beat HQ. We have completed the March ratings, which means we will soon compile the 2nd Quarter, just as the third quarter is underway. We have also gotten the announcements of the #PlatVnyl6 nominees for the Video Music Awards announced. So we are riding high for the moment. We get underway with the song releases, or what we playfully call

The Singles Scene

• Fearless BND - Love Like Fire 4.50 Emeralds

• George Moss - Take On The World 4.50 Emeralds
• Union of Sinners and Saints - Christ The Lord is Risen 4.75 Emeralds
• Hezekiah Walker - Better 4.75 Emeralds

I am appreciating the return of Icon For Hire after their breakup with Tooth and Nail. For those not in the know, the Union of Sinners and Saints are members of Petra and Whiteheart in a new side project. Wonder which ones are the sinners? On to the releases which

Missed The Mark

• City Side Music Ministries - Christian Dictionary A1 3.25 Emeralds

• Tyson Motsenbocher - Letters to Lost Loves 3.75 Emeralds

• Tal - The Great Struggling 3.75 Emeralds

All that I will say about this grouping is I am really disappointed in Nine Lashes. I will not go into all that here. Click on the link to go to my full review. It brings to mind AD and the lyrics "Progress, we are marching backward". No snark for the next grouping.

Pure Platinum Perfection

• Jonathan Nelson - Fearless 5 Emeralds
• Beckah Shae - Rest (Without Words) 5 Emeralds

Our final grouping is usually the largest, and it remains so this month. With over 35 releases however, I think it is one of THE LARGEST. Without further ado.

• Jarmone - Leap EP 4.75 Emeralds
• Dustin Kensrue - Thoughts That Float on a Different Blood 4.50 Emeralds
• Twilight Meadow - The Worlds We Discovered 4.75 Emeralds
• Paper Lights - Great Escape 4.75 Emeralds
• Young Noah - Young Forever 4.50 Emeralds
• Pearl City Worship - We Wont Be Silent 4.75 Emeralds
• Planetshakers - Momentum: Live In Manilla 4.75 Emeralds
• Tommee Proffitt and Brook Griffin - Even So Come EP 4.25 Emeralds
• Propaganda - Selected Songs 4.75 Emeralds
• River Valley Worship - Edge of Heaven 4.50 Emeralds
• Jordan Smith - Something Beautiful 4.25 Emeralds
• Tedashii - This Time Around 4.25 Emeralds
• Temple Veil - Give His Love Away 4.50 Emeralds
• Thi'sl - Against All Odds 4.50 Emeralds
• Stuart Townend and Keith Getty - In Christ Alone: The Songs of Stuart Townend and Keith Getty 4.75 Emeralds

• Vineyard Worship - All The Earth Shall Worship: Live From The Vineyard Global Family 4.75 Emeralds
• West of Hope - The Journey 4.50 Emeralds
• Adam Young - RMS Titanic 4.75 Emeralds

That does it for the March releases. Next up, more #PlatVnyl6 announcements, and the 2nd Quarter Wrap. Until then, I am Awaiting Your Reply.

Night Beat Rewind: May 2014

We are finally caught up, and it is the last day of May. The nerve of the industry to release a ton of new material just at the time we are busy with #PlatVnyl4 nominations. We could say a conspiracy is afoot, but the truth is that we operate so far under the radar they probably don't even know we exist. But just maybe, if we make enough noise, like the who's of whoville, the industry Horton will know, "we are here".

We begin with "singles" this month, which is a new listing, and may help with song of the year nominees in the future.

Singles

• For King and Country - Fix My Eyes 4.75 Emeralds
• Anthony Garland - Talk Dirty Reply to Jason Derulo 3 Emeralds
• Jars of Clay - Reckless Forgiver 4.50 Emeralds
• Jesus Loves Electro - Burning Love, The Remixes 4.75 Emeralds
• Salt of The Sound - It Must Be Hope 5 Emeralds
• David Thulin - Light In Me (feat Nicole Croteau), The Remixes 4.75 Emeralds

Looking at that list you'll note that they all just missed except that glaring 3 that I gave to Anthony Garland. All it contained was a hip hop beat with the words Satan Dirty to Me repeated at various intervals. If that is anything like the original it didn't need a reply. You don't need a response to horrible music. Only two albums missed the mark. The first, while I'm a little disappointed, I'm not especially surprised. That release belonged to CCM Veteran Carman, and his new release No Plan B got a just missed 3.75 Emeralds. It was a pretty good album, but no Champion, and was rewarded honestly. The other album that missed was a gospel album, Rachel Armstrong and Passion got 3.75 Emeralds as well.

Seven albums, however, rose to the occasion and beyond. They are those which are regarded as the most precious of all.

Pure Platinum

• My Epic - Behold (Instrumental) 5 Emeralds
• Wess Morgan - Livin' 5 Emeralds
• Relentless Flood - The Time Is Now 5 Emeralds
• Beckah Shae - Champion 5 Emeralds
• Seventh Day Slumber - We Are The Broken 5 Emeralds
• Tedashii - Below Paradise 5 Emeralds
• Various Artists - The Action Bible Remixed 5 Emeralds

I judge each genre separately, but each release exhibits those categories which I deem perfect in that genres makeup.

Most albums aren't perfect, however. This month is no exception. These releases still qualify for the Platinum Vinyl 5 Pool, but they are

Semi-Precious Metal

• All Sons and Daughters - All Sons 4.50 Emeralds
• Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir - You Alone 4.50 Emeralds
• Artifex Dereo - Time In Place 4.50 Emeralds
• Audrey Assad - Death Be Not Proud 4.75 Emeralds
• Being As An Ocean - How We Both Wondrously Perish 4.50 Emeralds
• Chris and Gileah - Chris and Gileah 4.75 Emeralds
• Cor Captis - Hello Someday 4.75 Emeralds
• Crowder - Neon Steeple 4.75 Emeralds
• D-Tropp - Away From Home 4.50 Emeralds

• Shai Linne - Lyrical Theology Part 2: Doxology 4.75 Emeralds
• Shai Linne - Lyrical Theology Part 2: Doxology Instrumentals 4.50 Emeralds
• The Museum - What We Stand For 4.50 Emeralds
• V. Rose - Forever After 4.75 Emeralds
• Robbie Seay Band - Psalms, Volume 2 4.50 Emeralds

• Michael Sweet - I'm Not Your Suicide 4.75 Emeralds
• Thi'sl - Fallen King 4.50 Emeralds

That concludes this edition of Night Beat Rewind. It is such a good feeling to be caught up and on time. Until next time, I am Awaiting Your Reply.
